Your ideal 2 car setup (1 being your FRS)
I currently own an e85 tuned and 4.56 final drive FRS with some other mods. Awesome car for a single bachelor but is honestly too loud to hold a normal conversation and suspension is a tad bumpy.
I'm looking for an under $80000 car that compliments the FRS and not replaces it. Any ideas? I was thinking the Macan Turbo or Audi RS7 used maybe even a ct200h. Excited to hear what you guys have in mind. |
New or used for your next car?

Two cars in my garage right now is the s7 and frs. I can tell you that the s7 has been a bit of a heartache. I dread the day when warranty is out. My wife loves to keep things we pays for so s7 is going to be there for a long time...
Honestly, buying the s7 is the single biggest regret I have ever spent money on. |
I would go with a small SUV or sport sedan. I have never driven the BMW M2 or Audi RS3, but those come to mind. Q3 or '18 Tiguan Rline is on our list for the wife, but that is very sub $80k. My other vehicle right now is a Ducati, so the BRZ is the comfy car.

Chevy SS, because 4 door Aussie designed car with a big old Murica V8.
Comes in manual as well. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk |

If you need something for utility as a compliment to your FR-S, make sure it has plenty of it (utility that is). Get something that has a big cargo opening, good value for the money, and is upgradeable/tuneable or has lots of stock performance. For those reasons, I'd say the Macan, Lexus CT, and really any sedan are either too small, not functional enough and/or too expensive to be a good companion car for an 86. Dirt Cheap, functional, upgradeable Honda Fit, Civic Hatchback $20-$25k Kia Forte5 SX -$25k Functional, but not too big, upgradeable Chevy Colorado/ GMC Canyon either in crew cab -$30 - 35k Jeep Grand Cherokee - $35k - $50k Fast, Unique & Functional MBenz GLA 45 AMG - $50K Jaguar F-Pace S AWD - $60k Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrofoglio - $80K (available in fall) |
Used GS-F or IS-F would be a great complement :)

My ideal setup would be my brz and a Toyota 4runner or 4 door tundra. My car is all the fun, but I can't haul wood home in it or carry more than 1.5 passengers.
|
I have a 4x4 Tacoma as my DD and The FRS for fun so I have the best of both worlds. Had 7 vehicles at one time and never again.
|
Forester xt.

If I want a two car Toyota combo and one being the FRS, the other one would be a Land Cruiser with air intake snorkel for utility and SHTF scenerio.
|
A little out of range but this would be ideal http://rallyfighter.com/
Reality check. What do you want, truck, GT, SUV/CUV, wagon...? |
I have a 4x4 v6 MT Tacoma and its great. BRZ is way too racecar now to commute in... But I kind of want a Cayman S too

If I was going to do 2 cars, I'd rather have something really extreme like an Elise + something really comfy like a 3-series or G sedan.
BRZ is more of a compromise one-car setup IMO. |
If performance is on the table, you want to roadtrip it and don't need 4x4 (most don't, don't be delusional) imo it would be a comfy sportwagon. Not significantly less fun than a sedan and way more practical. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Cadillac CTS, pre-owned can get you a bangin' deal on the luxury cars, maybe a Panamera. If you want to save a few bucks there's VW and Subaru.
If practicality takes precedence over comfort or performance a truck makes sense, but I would skip the 'truck yeah' as it sounds like a commuter is needed and suggest the Honda Ridgeline, >90% of people don't need more truck than that. |

For an ideal 2 car set up, I'd say my second would be a Volvo V60 Polestar

Or one of the old h6 Outbacks if you can find one. Simplifies maintenance because if you know how one Subaru works, the other isn't too much different. Though if I had 80k for car money, I'd probably replace my FRS with a used Cayman or Lotus (:scared0016:) and get a Subaru something for the everyday. 86 twins are great all-rounders and super fun to drive, but when you can have 2 decent cars, why compromise? |

probably would get a jeep grand cherokee srt8
|
Buy 3 more FR-S...that'd be 800 HP if you include your original...
Heck if you get them new...that'd be 815 HP...that is Dodge Demon level of HP. With 4 FR-S...your friends don't need to ride in the back...you just make them drive. |
I am looking to pick up a 2011-2012 Porsche 911 turbo s. I daily my frs and will pry toss a small turbo on for shits and giggles but I love just driving it every day. I had wanted to do a full build but just not worth it for me. But I want a nicer car that I don't want to park at Walmart and can have balls out fun with and still take on road trips!

My daily driver is a Forester. The new XT is a very nice car. I would keep the rest of the money for car maintenance, spare parts, tires (nice to check different ones). |

if I had $80k for a daily driver, nothing from the Subaru line up would make the list.
Hell if you're looking for an SUV in that price range the volvo XC90 is a beautiful and comfortable vehicle. The twin charge set up is lively And it doesn't have a play school interior like a Forrester . https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...fa4a6136f6.jpg Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk |
For $80k these would be my choices to park alongside a Twin...
- Audi SQ5 (plus a few mods) - Porsche Macan Turbo - Jaguar F-Pace S - BMW X5 xDrive50i Definitely agree with the sentiment that you should get something with plenty of practicality, comfort and power. |
This is actually a relevant conversation for me because I bought the brz as a toy and am considering getting rid of my Sentra and buying a new daily.
Ignoring price but also keeping things reasonable: Either a mid sized truck (probably a Ridgeline because it is the only current truck that does not drive like a POS), or a big sedan or hatch. Something like an SS or 5 series. Maybe even a cts The Volvo s60 wagon has also caught my attention in a big way and would be a perfect fit. Makes me want to consider the brand. I have never thought much of their design and have possibly ignorant concerns about volvo reliability. |
Everyone seems to pick SUVs, why not a large sedan or wagon? They have a lot of back seat space as well as trunk space, and there's usually a little less wind noise than on SUVs.

People in the US just like taller vehicles though. It does make getting kids in and out of car seats easier I guess... |
I'm really happy with my setup. The Forester XT is fast and grips like a boss, the BRZ is light, fun, and gets sideways.
The wife has a stock crosstrek, so we have everything we need covered. I'd add a beater truck if I had it my way. |

IDK if its really my ideal 2 car garage but I currently have my 2013 BRZ and then a 05 Outback XT wagon.
our 3rd car is 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk. |
Got a Toyota C-HR recently, the car has countless kits from factory itself & many more from aftermarket in Japan already. Itch to mod never stopped since the day I got it.
And yes xc90 would be a baller car if I have the $$$ |
