6MT vs Paddle shiftting Auto
I'm a traditional Manual driver. I'm all about grabbing the next gear. But when they announced the Auto will have paddle shifters via the steering....all I can think of is it being as fun as a damn video game. Blipping the paddles could give you that F1 feel. Heck the R35 has paddle shifts. So I'm stuck! If the paddle shifter auto is as strong as the manual gear box (in terms of being able to hold the power I'm going to throw at it), I could find myself rolling in an Auto FR-S.
Thoughts/Discuss. |
Oh no this is gonna turn into a hate thread the moment someone chooses Auto.
It's going to happen, this is just asking for trouble, the car isn't even out and people are starting to become Scion douche bags. As can be seen Via other automatic discussion thread. The thing is that we don't know what kind of auto is in it....some one speculated it's an Aisin 6AT same as the one in the new Miata. Other say they might be one similar to the Lexus, and another say it's like a 370Z. Either way it's going to cost more than a Manual. Also people get Auto mixed with Dual Clutch. They're not the same :/ I'm considering Auto, as most people know already. But it will be decided at the test drive. And just for the record I'm choosing Auto due to health problems not because I don't want a Manual. too bad there's no Porsche PDk in a Toyota ;/ |
I think you may be confusing the amazing technology in the F1 paddle shifters vs the novelty idea of putting the automatic 'gear select' option up by the steering wheel and thus calling it a paddle shifter.
auto-manu-shift is pretty much junk in nearly every common cars trans, if I had to choose one it would be VW's DSG and im sure thats nothing like what the scion will have. |
And I don't think the automatic poll choice is right, it's not a F1 Dual Clutch Paddle...It's a Paddle more like a 370z...I mean I guess I understand the idea.
I hope it's not like the the crap tastic one on a genesis. Don't get me worng I loved the manual V6 Genesis, but the paddles on there are the most horrible thing I've ever driven. Worst Experience ever. CVT on a CRZ was fun though |
^^No over analyzing. I am not comparing F1 technology to that of a paddle shifter in a common car. Just the "sense" and "feel" is all I'm talking about. It could be fun giving it's pushing the power. A good exhaust note after blipping the paddle shift...could be very sweet. I agree it will be after a good test drive. If the paddle is smooth and fast (I don't expect R35 fast), it could be a first for me. I'm definitely going to drive both though.
For now I'm going to select 6mt for traditions sake. |
I vote auto. But putting a auto with a n/a 2.0 liter with low torque numbers is a recipe for a weaker torque feel. Im torn.

Gonna drift it/canyon drive it, so I'm going 6MT :)
|
I will have clutch pedal until the day the Feds ban the internal combustion engine.

Personally, I much prefer an auto. For someone who drives a lot in traffic (on probably the worst freeways known) it makes more sense for me. I think it's really cool that we have a choice at all, surely didn't have to be that way. :party0030:
