Help me decide between these two pre-owned units
Hi guys, Ive narrowed down my search to two pre-owned brzs
(1) 2013 BRZ ran 8,500 miles (mostly city traffic) - very low mileage, complete service records - only cons are - owner doesnt seem to take good care of the interior. Scratches everywhere, left under the sun, smoked a bit. I know its fixable but my fear is the lack of interior care may also translate to a lack of general car / driving care. (2) 2014 BRZ ran 20,000 miles already (plenty of highway miles, i would estimate this car ran 8,500 city and 12,000 highway in total. - upgraded rims to 18 but all stock rims included - rest of car is bone stock except for better floor mats, trunk mats, and wurth underbody. - also complete service records Although the second unit seems like the better choice espnwith a more OC owner, ive never purchased a used car thats relatively young with this much mileage. (Im from the philippines, and most cars here should be considered 10,000 miles Below to be good preowned) how much life can i get from a regularly maintained 20,000 mile unit? A. Am i seeing parts replacements anytime soon? B. At 20,000 miles, is the engine for example less efficient or i wont get to enjoy its full potential as brand new anymore? |
Whatever has the better color. I'd take #2 because most of the problems are with the 13's.

Highway driving racks up miles pretty quick. The good part is it's usually low-medium load conditions with a warmed up engine (low wear).
Not really sure what kills cars so quickly in the Philippines, so I don't have a reliable answer for A. All I can say is that I'm at 30k and have had no issues so far. For comparison, I normally expect a modern car to reach 200k miles before it's junked. For B, I think the general estimate is you lose about 1hp per 20k miles or so due to wear inside the engine. |
Pick the trim and color combo you can't live without. The rest is fixable

Thanks for the feedback! Well the number one killer here for mechanics would be potholes. Even highways and provincial roads Have bad roads. Exterior wise, probably the intense heat all year round. Its always 30-32C here. So do you mean unlike older cars, 20k miles wouldnt be such a biggie anymore with a modern engine like the fa20? |
it shouldn't be. I'd say take the one you can get the best deal on. Unless your miles are totally different than US miles they are both very low mileage cars.

I would go with what others have said and pick the best deal. <20k is still very low miles |
My 2014 has 33,000 miles on it. I bought it when it had 21,000 so I've put 12,000 on it in a year. So far I have had only one break down which was caused by bad gas, so in other words the car has never failed on it's own accord.
Mileage isn't a big deal anymore. What matters is how the previous owner took care of the car. 20,000 well cared-for miles is much better than 8,000 abused miles. Buy car 2, sell whichever set of rims you don't want, and continue to take care of it like the previous owner did and you will have little to no issues at all. |
