Shifting Clunk/Pop - AT Tranmission Issue
3 Attachment(s)
Got up and went for a canyon drive this morning. When downshifting from 3rd to 2nd in manual mode on my 2013 AT FR-S, I heard a pop/clunk noise.
I've had the car for 2 years and put 16K on it (bought at 8K). Never had any issues. Took it easy on the way home and put it back in automatic mode. Opened the hood and below are photos of what I saw. Transmission fried? #totaled? WTF |
Here's a quick video of some downshifts from 3rd to 2nd. The car has never made a popping noise like this before.
This recording is with a cheap mic hooked up to a GoPro. The mic is in the sound tube hole. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nRiGNJHWbU"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8nRiGNJHWbU[/ame] |
Are you sure the sound is coming from the transmission, or, could it be further back in the drivetrain ......(lose rear axle nut).. ??

Sounds like from the transmission. The photos above are from the passenger side near the firewall. There's been some kind of fluid leak here. Radiator fluid is fine. Not sure what's going on. Carefully tested again this morning, and the pop was much more intermittent.

I reckon if it were my car, I would take it to a transmission shop (or a dealer) and have the transmission inspected to see if they can find where it (or something) is leaking and have the transmission oil changed. humfrz |
Any updates?
