30,000 mile Service - Dublin Toyota wants to charge me upwards of $800

http://imgur.com/a/XzdUH ^ 30,000 mile service options from Dublin Toyota. Lol... My car is closing in on 28,000 miles and is close to 4 years old. I figure I might as well do my 30,000 mile service now. I'm due for an oil change - what else should I be doing? Cabin filter change (by myself)? Brake fluid replacement? Also, suggestions on dealerships that won't charge an arm and a leg for an oil change? |
Mann Engineering (Santa Clara), The Racer's Line (Concord), or Elite Performance (Burlingame) could all help you out.
And check the owner's manual for what should be done so you know Most dealers will be expensive. Just depends if they throw a bunch of useless stuff in as well so if you know what you need only it could be cheaper in the end |
Looks like a bunch of upsells to me - i.e any kind of "cleaning service" or "treatment" (courtesy of BG).

Steven Creek Toyota $260 for 30000 service, if you have after market intake, or bought your own cabin filter, you can let them know and they will subtract the price.

When I first retired from the Postal Service, I wanted to get a little job to get me out of the house. I worked at a Lexus Dealership as a valet. They charged $160 for an oil/filter/rotation that I thought was outrageous. RUN as far as you can from that dealership!!!!! Most of the stuff on there is complete upsell/BS!!!! I would talk to a Toyota representative - that is the most unbelievable example of price gouging I've ever seen. Really, people say horrible things about dealerships - I worked for one - and I know that they truly care about doing a good job because they are as invested in the vehicle as you are, but for GODS SAKE, this is terrible! Sorry about the rant.....

30k should be air filter, cabin filter, oil change, rotate and a brake fluid flush.

I think every dealer offers some kind of marked-up, "recommended" service package that goes beyond what the owners manual will say you need to do. It's easy enough to go into any dealership (I've done this at both Toyota and Lexus dealers) and say, "I just want the basic oil and filter change." Very often the rest of the items on the "recommended" package are merely inspection items that they check off and don't do much else -- and in fact will be done anyways even if you just get the oil change. But yeah if you go to somewhere like Racers Line or Elite Performance, it will be cheaper, and/or you can get better oil and parts for your car at the same time.

Just waiting on Tcoat to defend the "poor" dealer...

+1 Racers Line. Huge fan, won't take my car anywhere else.
