E85 + OFT + headers: stalls out on cold start
Each morning my BRZ needs a few tries to turn over. It coughs and sputters, then dies out if I can't get it to catch on the first try. Usually on the second or third try it catches, then runs fine (great, even!) once it warms up.
I'm thinking it has to do with the E85... I've enjoyed the extra oomph it provides, but without a true flex fuel kit, I'm afraid it just isn't properly tuned for this fuel. Has anyone else run into this? I may try running this tank low and swapping back to a normal flash for 91. Bay Area CA if that helps. It's not crazy cold in the mornings, or anything extreme. |
If its under 60f degrees I almost always have to crank the engine twice on high mixtures of E85. If i'm running something like E70 it usually starts on first crank, but otherwise it takes minimum two cranks. This is totally normal according to Moto-Mike at Moto-East.
What mixture of E85 are you running? Temps? |
That's pretty normal when running the OFT E85 tune. Something I've found that seems to help is leaving the key in the accessory position for about 10 seconds before actually starting the engine. I have a garage now, so it's not much of an issue, but I used to see stalling issues anytime temps got below 60F.

Modify you cranking injector pulse tables and it should start first crank doen to about 40f and maybe lower on e70

I made a video showing how to do this in RomRaider:
