Not another header thread...

..except that it is. Sorry! I have searched the forum, but not found an answer.

I am soon to be the lucky owner of a 2013 GT86, and the first mod will be OFT and maybe a catless OFH. Everything else will be stock.

Currently i am driving a catless Celica GT4, and it smells really intense when giving it the beans. I live in Norway, where you will be shot on sight if you modify your car, and i'm really tired of worrying about being pulled over.

So, is the smell or sound from the lack of the main cat obvious for the car behind while driving?

Pics of GT4!

You will have one cat. Only smells on coldstart mornings.
And welcome

Very nice, that's my favorite Toyota, what's not to love? Two doors, AWD, and boost.

Yes, it does stink and if you know the smell, you'll know the car is catless. It's not near as bad as older cars and doesn't smell like raw gas. When I stop and the wind is in back of me, I can smell it and my wife notices it too.

Do you still have the 2nd cat?

Thx, it's a great car, probably going to miss it.

Keep the large secondary cat in front pipe and it will be ok.

Nice GT4! One of the few cars I wished I had an opportunity to buy new... or very lightly used.

Mine was neither when i bought it, and the engine blew up a few weeks later:P Had to import another car from japan and do a swap. The famous power/price/reliability-triangle.

But thanks for the advice guys. I am going for the catless header then!

guybo 05-11-2017 06:13 AM

no cats

FYI there are various aftermarket headers on the market with HFC's that work pretty darned well :)

I used to have a catless header (JDL) and 200 cell catted FP (Berk). My friend drove behind me on a roadtrip and said the smell was noticeable.

After my wife got pregnant I switched to a catted header (FT86SF) and stock FP. I haven't noticed any smells other than a very faint fuel smell on cold start. This is probably the route you should go.

Did you drive the car already? It is quite fast stock and very easy to go above speed limits in a few seconds. Catless headers provide a few gains, but not as much. It doesn't worth it, especially if it is strictly prohibited in your country.
