Pushing the Stock Motor
 

Hey guys,

Ive read mutiple forums and articles however I wanted opinions from fellow 86's.

My current setup is tuned by Delicious,

C38 JRSC
DT Flexfuel
DW700cc Injectors
DW300 Pump
Dual JR Radiator/Oil Cooler
Crawford AOS
Tomei UEL headers, overpipe
Invida Front pipe, N1 Catback

Have ACT XT Street Clutch, but havent installed it.Will have installed by then.
Currently making around 300-330WHP

Want to do the JR high boost pulley and found that Church Automotive tunes them on stock motor. I wanted to get about 380-390WHP. I don't track and this is a daily driver so I rarely ever step on it and I work in town. I'm still an amateur so I wanted different opinions.

If you want a reliable daily driver, where you're at is about as high as you should safely go without building a motor.

If you want to build a motor and you have something else to drive in the case this engine lunches, feel free to go for it...

Lets make this a little more realistic: At your current power level your engine will probably only hold so long. It may make it 10-100k miles, but I don't see it hitting 150k (at least its more unlikely than not with stock motor).

At 380-390whp it is a ticking time bomb. You might make it 20k miles, maybe 40k if lucky, but it is most definitely going to pop at some point. It just may not be for a while.

Long story short -- Just be ready for a new motor. Don't expect it to hold forever, even if you make it 1000 miles with no issues. I have a friend whose motor held around that power level for 20k miles, and then popped on a gentle drive one morning under easy-going daily driving. At high power (anything over stock) you are slowly weakening the internal components.

Yep, the rods slowly bend and some snap quickly. It's completely playing with fire. I would recommend after you do your SC install and start saving for an engine build.

i have the exact same set-up, if you really want the high boost pulley have Delicious create you a tune that keeps the torque low! Otherwise get new rods and valve spring and run only e85 or 93 gas

I don't expect to see anywhere near 100k XD itd be a miracle if it hits 60K, I bought my car with 0miles and pretty much went forced induction the following year and Ive had the kit for about a year with 330ish whp and I havent had any problems so far. Its at 23k miles.

Was asking in case someone has done it with nearly the same setup for their opinion. I have alot of buddies that have 86's but dont modify whatsoever other than cosmetic.

It all depends on your wallet, @Nightflo Money will fix any problem and IMHO you've already pushed the motor and need to start saving up for when the inevitable happens. If you can afford to fix or replace the engine, push it and see how far you can go before you blow.
