The life of my FR-S thus far!

Well im new to the forum so i just thought i would share the few mods i have done to my car so far. Some of these pictures are not the best of quality so ill go ahead and apologize in advance.

Well the first thing i did was tint the windows:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...ax16/First.jpg

Then i plastidipped the emblems:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12.../plastidip.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/IMG_7460.jpg

Then i got some HID's:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...max16/HID1.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...ymax16/HID.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/IMG_7479.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/IMG_7477.jpg

Then i changed out all the interior lights with LED's:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/IMG_7473.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/IMG_7471.jpg

Then i got some LED reverse lights:

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/IMG_7496.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/IMG_7497.jpg

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y12...6/IMG_7490.jpg

Then i tinted the taillights (i was very happy about this cause it was the first time i had attempted this, did my truck and car and my buddies truck):

AND THIS IS JUST MY FAVORITE SHOT SO FAR:

Well newest addition is front LED blinkers.

7/29 Well i have yet to decide what coilovers to get, but i wanted the car a little lower so for now i cut the springs. Let me just say this is a temporary fix!

Latest addition to the car, painted the roof black! Sorry for the bad iphone pics

This needs to be moved to the FR-S forum. Nice car though. You should start an Owner's Journal in that forum as well, good way to keep a running thread of your car.

M-17 07-16-2012 05:47 PM

Nice man, I see you didn't waste much time tinting the taillights. One question, are the brake lights bright enough to shine through?

srt4_night_rider 07-16-2012 06:16 PM

Moshpit37: I didn't even realize I had posted this in the BRZ section. Guess that's what I get for being a noob to the site. :/

M-17: You can see the brake lights perfectly, in the picture they look really dark for some reason but I only did a couple coats so they are actually a lot lighter looking in person. I just wanted to get rid of that chrome look.

Lonewolf 07-16-2012 06:21 PM

It's looking good so far...what else do you have planned?

srt4_night_rider 07-17-2012 02:10 AM

Im hoping the next thing is lowering it, but im not really satisfied with most the springs out there and i dont really want to fork out the cash for coilovers yet. But i have a few more DIY mods im going to attempt here in the next couple days!

srt4_night_rider 07-17-2012 02:56 AM

Dont know how i feel about it yet but i wrapped my gas door tonight in carbon fiber
vinyl, its some pretty real looking vinyl but i still think it may be a bit cheesy.

Cheesy was my exact thought when I saw this.

The emblems look great though! That is exactly what I've been thinking about doing. It now is on my official "gotta do" list.

FuzionTeknique 07-17-2012 04:21 PM

Very nice DadHawk! I love the two tone look the car is getting now. I am not really into the gas door thing. I would maybe consider a flat black roof vinyl or front grill vinyl.

Asterisked Accolade 07-17-2012 06:19 PM

I don't think the fuel door is cheesy. There is nothing special about it remaining red paint-- may as well change it to a nice CF vinyl. Not every single bit needs to be a $400 authentic fully CF part.

srt4_night_rider 07-18-2012 12:31 AM

I actually feel like the more I look at it the more I like it, I mean the car has what's suppose to be a carbon fiber look all over it. I'll prob leave it, I like to be different!

ayau 07-18-2012 12:34 AM

you're going to piss off some drivers with those faux-HID headlights.

Lonewolf 07-18-2012 12:57 AM

For the fuel door to look good I think you need some darker wheels...

FRSGT86 07-18-2012 12:58 AM

Well you certainly didn't waste any time. Nice mods so far and welcome to the forum!

Looking forward to see what you'll be modding next!

I have yet to even be flashed but with the low stance of the car i doubt i will be, but out of curiosity why do you say faux?

I do agree but wheels are still a ways down the road for me. I did have an idea to add a little zest to the stock wheels though... here is a little photoshop.

nzer 07-18-2012 04:34 AM

Had you thought of plastidip on the wheels. I'm looking at the badges as you have done but am going to do the wheels as well.

Laika 07-18-2012 07:30 AM

How did you get the tint to wrap around the tail lights so nicely??

The curves and stuff make it look like quite a task

The tint on the taillights is a spray, it's not the same as film used for window tint.

It's a personal taste thing with me. I've never seen one I didn't think looked like the owner was trying too hard and it breaks up the (and most) car's visual line for me too much.

I was just confirming for the OP that, yep, I agree.

Jlturner is right i sprayed mine, what you do is put a couple drops of black into some clear coat and just keep applying coat after coat until they are at the desired tint. It is the only way i would recommend anyone to do it because they keep there shine and smoothness.

Laika 07-18-2012 06:07 PM

Thank you! Yours look great on your car but after having a car with the "blacked out" theme I wanted to do something different this time. I wish those grazio tails weren't so pricey. I just feel better about tinting than taking paint to my tails and having it be pretty much irreversible (unless you can somehow safely strip the paint and not alter the clear plastic on the tail that i'm not aware of)

You could always do the solid red tint! I thought about doing the solid red look before I tinted them black.

Here are some updated shots of a few things just so they are in high quality (added them to original post but i know someone people dont like to go back).

Where did you find the blinkers? Looks like they're meant to be there... how hard was the install?

I actually got these off eBay the selection of LED bulbs on ebay is outrageous. The install was super easy don't even think it took me two minutes.

This looks great! Now let's get together for a Georgia meet :)! I am going to put something up today for August. ** Here it is :)

I'm not sure I understand this... Are they or are they not HIDs?

just because you have HID bulbs doesn't mean you're running proper/legal HID system. the bulbs may be HID, but the projectors/headlamp housings were designed for halogen bulbs. as a result, the cut off lines are way off (usually way too high) and you end up blinding the people in front of you.

the best way to get a HID system is to buy the gt86 headlamps. it will be expensive, but at least you're not blinding others.

ayau 07-27-2012 12:52 PM

just to give you an example, here's a comparison between running HID bulbs in halogen reflectors vs HID bulbs in proper HID projectors. pay attention to the cut off line. notice that there's no light above the cut off line in the projector HID system. you'll also notice that the proper HID system has a lower cut off line on the left side. this is to prevent the light from hitting oncoming cars. in asia, the lower cut off line is on the right side because they drive on the other side of the road.

I have to say, those tinted tail lights + the blacked out emblem and letters looks absolutely beautiful. Exactly what i want to do with mine on my Hot Lava FRS when i end up getting one. haha.

That tint is the perfect amount. Not too dark, not too light.

blackfireball5 07-27-2012 01:22 PM

srt4_night_rider, how many coats/layers of paint did you use on your tail lights? can you detail exactly how you did it so that i will know how to get that level of opacity when i do mine?

Thanks man i appreciate it, if only you could see them in person they are so much lighter looking in person. you can see right through them still you just dont see the chrome look.

It is different every time, it all depends on how much black you add to the clear. The more black the less coats, the less black the more coats. I always say less is better because you can just add more coats. I think i sprayed mine about ten times....:confused0068: I barely put any black in my clear cause i wanted to make sure i didnt go to dark. I think im about to do another set here soon or maybe even redo mine red so i will take a bunch of pictures and right a detailed how to.

are those actually HID bulbs or just halogen bulbs with a purple tint? as far as i know, true HID systems require a different wiring harness, a HID ballast, etc. many halogen bulbs are printed with a HID sticker for marketing.
