Turbo with OEM front pipe

I have a FBM turbo with supplied 3" downpipe and Greedy EVO3 2.75" catback, but still use the OEM catalyzed front pipe which I think is only 2.25".

What frontpipes are you guys running and how bad is the noise and fumes?

I'm think of getting the Blitz 2.75" catless front pipe, so anyone have this and would gains be big? I have mine tuned to 12psi max.

I ran a Sydney Motorsport Engineering kit with a Borg Warner turbo at 18 PSI tuned by Delicious Tuning utilising the stock front pipe. I had an SME over pipe and a stock midpipe with only an axleback exhaust.

The main issue I found was boost taper. 18 PSI used to taper to 12 PSI by redline. I swapped it out for the Blitz 2.75" and put the stock axleback muffler on and found my issue mostly resolved!

You have a lot of different piping sizes in your exhaust so it would make sense to bolt up a Blitz front pipe or similar, even if just to cure my OCD.

How's the fumes and any raspy noises?

I'm trying to find a 2.75-3" frontpipe with a cat...any known available or just custom?

Most them seems to be 2.5" or a downpipe combo...do you know any part numbers?

Im running 3" all the way back without a resonator or cat and it sounds good. Zero rasp an sounds good as hell.

I should just post a sound clip on YouTube for everyone.

I don't. Ive visited everyone of each company's websites and can tell you that they are all listed.

It seems like the only current 3" catted front pipes for the FRS is the JDL and AVO? Anyone have either and which one would you recommend?

Also, since these are bolt-ons to OEM, does anyone know if they actually taper down to OEM size of 2.25" or are they 3" end to end?

The JDL is 3" end to end and I am assuming the AVO is also. They are designed to be used with a 3" all the way through setup. That's the most efficient and best way to run exhaust on a boosted 86.

I have a 3 inch downpipe, followed by a 2.5 inch turboback with a Berk catted FP. The berk piece is definetly the biggest restriction, the connection to the midpipe tapers down to 2 1/4....I was so pissed when I measured it.

Damn, why would they taper it down that narrow? I feel like it's counter intuitive. Tests have shown our engine has the best exhaust flow at 3in but it is of course louder so I understand the 2.75 and 2.5 to quiet it down some but 2.25 would just be making rasp and less power:iono:

Berk's explanation was that they wanted the end user to be able to have 0 fitment issues with the OEM catback and be able to retain the factory donut gasket. F'ing stupid if you ask me. 99/100 people that run a front pipe on this car are going to have an aftermarket CBE. They should have just made the bolt pattern on the flange be compatible with the smaller diameter stock flange.

Eazy-V 05-24-2017 10:41 PM

I went with the JDL ultra quiet catted 3" front pipe with flat flange, hope itvfirs the Greddy EVO3
