This is no surprise really. This is Toyota SOP. They typically rotate executives through different parts of the business every few years. Jack H. alluded to this when we were in Long Beach that he was "overdue" to be moved having been at Scion beyond the normal length of service in a single area.
Jack is definitely a marketing guy, but he is a car enthusiast as well. He's not a nuts-and-bolts, numbers guy, but he seems to enjoy his job and talking about cars. Best of luck to him. Maybe he'll bring some of his enthusiasm to Toyota. The whole 1st86 program was Jack's idea, and he didn't really have full buy-in when he rolled with it (or so the story goes). You got to admit, they definitely got a huge marketing ROI on the small investment they've made in that program. |
Every autoshow I've been to large or small always had a cool Scion booth. There are always nice freebies compared to other manufactures. I think they did a great job making Scion fun and interesting.

I think any one who attended the First 86 Long Beach event had to be impressed with Jack and his rather limited resources. I can't remember when there was so much excitement about a new car that really delivered on its promise. I hope he is able to make Toyota a more exciting product as well. And yes, I am a Toyota shareholder.

Toyota chose to market this as the "top-end" Scion in America, rather than the bottom-end Toyota, because that's where they figured they'd see the greatest gains, and where their youth/performance/custom segment is driven. |
Jack Hollis was just re-badged as a Toyota!
