That is post-MAF unmetered air. Bingo

From that pic I can't tell what it is.

If you go back to the same garage, they will find a reason that it's your fault. Go to a better garage.

so you remeber on the other thread i posted about the piece of plastic i found stuck in the throttle body its from that plastic container thing on the intake i just found a hole on....

Glad you found the cause 🖒🖒🖒 That piece you are holding is resonator I believe. I also remember your other post saying about plastic piece stuck in TB. Im surprised that no one @ subaru dealer caught that. I think you can easily find used part to replace or simply upgrade it by replacing silicone inlet.

Yes, I do. And I told you that I was more concerned with where that plastic piece came from and how it got there than the piece itself. I'm glad you found it and it hasn't damaged anything.

Just found the same damn thing with the same problems. Urge everyone to check this seems the intake rotates and then this piece rubs again the front damper! Now I'm just worried about the plastic I guess I've been burning it up in the cylinders hope that doesn't cause any damage!

This is an old thread but I just found it. My car had exactly the same P0171 and the resonator is also worn by the pulley. How is this not a recall???? Now I need to find out if I can do without the resonator (if that is the right word for it).

Before I switched to an aftermarket intake tube, I removed the resonator and plugged the opening with a blank from Lowe's plumbing dept.
