Chrysler Pacifica vs. Toyota 86

Sorry if this is a repost. Looks like the 86 is officially slower than a minivan.

Time to trade my car in for a Camaro I guess.

In before 86 driver can't drive. In before 86 handles better than a Camaro.

Minivans are seriously underrated these days, Americans really stepped up their game.

I hear the Mazda5 gets a bit of lift-off oversteer if you chuck it into a corner hard enough.

It's no secret the automatic versions of these cars are about a second slower off the line without the manual launch.

Had a guy in a lowered Honda Accord try to get me to race for about half an hour on our recent trip to Tampa. He kept getting next to me, matching my speed for a few seconds then taking off down the road. I never found out which car was better for pedal-mashing. (Because I don't care) He looked like he was having fun...

But when I saw a nice transfer ramp to get on I-4 (on the navigation app we were running) I tried to slowly creep by him so that I could be clear on the ramp. He was having none of it. He once again demonstrated his expert ability to push his gas pedal and took off for the ramp. I dropped back to my previous speed. He got to the ramp with about 6 car-lengths between us and had to slow his four-door car down in a hurry. Before we got halfway through the loop, he was holding up my progress and killing my fun....but he took off again once the road got straight. (And I reset my cruise control to 5-over)

I suspect a minivan would have got in the way even sooner....regardless of what it runs in the 1/4 mile.

Minivans as well as other cars that you wouldn't expect to be "quick" HAHA. Gearing has a lot to do with it too. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Off the line, torque is everything. Running corn juice I can get a decent leave at 3500 rpm. I don't like abusing my clutch though. Imo the auto needs the new rear gears.

I was so pissed at the people who posted this on reddit and kept claiming the car is shit cause only power matters..

So this came up on Jalopnik via an article advising you to get a 3 year old BMW instead of a slow GT86. Among the many absurd comments were the usual "Yeah, but the GT86 is for the track, not straights" or "if you buy a 3 year old FR-S and then spend X" and so on. It did make me think of one thing: You know when I have the most fun in the Fiesta? In the few weeks early spring when the temperature starts to warm up, but there's still a chance for one last snow storm so I can't justify putting the OEM summer rubber back on. The 0 to 60 time is shot. If you hit boost in first or second the car takes off like an excited puppy on a tile floor. I'm also pretty sure that if you tried to take a lap in the thing, many drivers would give up half way through and just enjoy sliding it around. That said, as much as I like driving that car when it grips, I smile way more when I can pull the back end around like the wheels were on lunch trays. Numbers aren't everything.

Also I'm going to be frequently replacing winter tires.

To some people, power/acceleration is a huge priority. The 86 is a slow car. That doesn't make the car less enjoyable for me though.

Nice! No wonder mine feels soooo fast!!!!

Tcoat 04-26-2017 09:28 PM

First the Demon now the Pacifica! The Canadian made cars are kicking the crap out of everything.

All the "more power crowd" need to trade in for Pacifica's. Please, please trade in for Pacifica's ( I do have an ulterior motive for that request)
