Twin Turbo V6.

Ok so I was reading about the coming 2019 supra and something caught my attention. Namely, a twin turbo v6 making 400hp and 300lb-ft of torque...

So riddle me this, how much will the Can signals differ on that engine/transmission from those on the twins?

Some bigger turbos and E85 should make it easy to hit 600+hp with that and considering that it's likely to be 6-700 lbs heavier than a twin and is quoted as having a 5.5 second 0-60, even just a straight swap should be good for immediate quickness.

So I'd assume there will be some wrecked supras within a few months of their release, so question is, so we hold off and stick with toyota or go ahead and use the existing can solutions for LSX swaps?

Well it is being designed by Toyota and BMW. So most likely not much will be the same.

Guess we have to wait 2 years until we have an answer. :burnrubber:

FR-S uses the Subaru CAN messaging set which is different from Toyota.

Same way the Fiat 124 uses the Mazda MX-5 signals.

Seems like only you can answer how important the time aspect of waiting is to you.

The question is where did you read about the engine? You may be waiting for a power plant that lives only in the imagination of a car blogger someplace. Unless the info came from an official source (an unnamed "insider" is not official) it could be pure speculation.

Heck go get yourself a LF3 (TT LFX) that makes 410 and 370 and I can sell you something that works with the CAN today :)

I"ve considered it...

Only reason I wouldn't is I like the idea of keeping the power plant same make for a multitude of reasons.

The two power plants I was initially looking at the most is the ecoboost 3.5 and the 3.6 twin turbo in the ats-v.

I'm building an FA20 now though, so those will have to be a future project.

Ecoboost V6 would be much easier route, plenty kicking around now.

I'm working on a Ford 3.7 swap which is nearly identical to a 3.5

He's more than likely referring to the twin turbo V6 that will power the new 2018 Lexus LS 500.

There's only rumors going around that it will also go in the "new Supra." It's a perfect candidate, but a rumor nonetheless.
