Rake
 

Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone is running with a "raked" setup. I'm curious to see how it looks. Wanting to put a pretty meaty tire in the back, but nothing obnoxious. Post some pictures if you have them!

It will look silly.

Why are you only running a meaty tire in the rear? Are you drag racing? If so then what does it matter how it looks..

Also keep in mind that you change the weight distribution of the car doing something like this and it may not handle how you want.

I guess it all depends what the end goal here is.

Ok, seriously though, what're your goals here? Are you going for just a look, or is there some performance intent here?

I'll be honest, I'm not 100% certain what direction to take. I am aware it will handle differently, and no I'm not looking to drag. Like I said, I'm not going for anything obnoxious. A subtle rake.

Lol, definitely not. I guess I'm going for more look, but nothing to the extent to take away the full nature of the car. I don't track it, nor do I plan to. It's my daily and I'm active at shows and meets.

Leave the car alone then. Not sure why you'd want any sort of rake?

From a technical aspect, the last thing the car needs is proportionally more rear tire. It has a front weight bias, so it theoretically needs more front tire contact patch than rear.

If you were going for a bit of a California Rake aesthetic, perhaps a same width but taller aspect ratio might accomplish that without overly messing up the overall handling, but it certainly won't improve anything other than having that specific look.

What tires and wheels are you running now?

Same subject but a different take on it would be chassis rake, via changing the roll center axis. Lowering the front end or raising the rear would accomplish this, but whether it would help or hurt the handling is something I'd have to defer to the guys that have done the measurements and sorted it out on-track. Chassis rake is a useful and important handling tuning facet, I don't recommend changing it just for funsies.

Just going for something different, man. Not everything has to make sense.

I'm not going for a drag look. Just trying to see if anyone has ran with a slight rake on this platform. I'm looking at running with the Ambit RT5s and I believe I could pull off a slight rake with them.

That all makes sense. Could you give me an example of "California Rake?"

I think most people run a little bit of rake on this car. I personally set my ride hide at about 5" from the ground to the pinch welds front and back. That way as the fuel gets lower and/or I remove the trunk junk, I can get a little bit of positive rake. I'm not a fan of the dead body in the trunk look.

That funny car picture I posted would be the most extreme example of California Rake. In traditional hot rodding it's simply running a taller rear tire to improve weight distribution during launch at the drag strip.

Slight rake is good for aero, basically makes the entire under body a large diffuser.

Do a reverse rake and have the front sit taller.
