Water leak drivers side
 

Today we had heavy rain fall and I noticed my drivers side floor board was very wet when I got in to leave work. The firewall was a little damp as well.


I searched the forum and the only issue I see similar to this one is related to the passenger side, due to clogged or kinked drains for AC. So I decided to see if anyone else has had this issue.

Little back story for diagnosis. The car was in a front end collision and currently has the door sil removed because the I pulled the seat belt off to get reset since it was locked.

Is there an AC drain or exterior drain on the fire wall that runs along the drivers side? Most of the moisture was on the floorboard and I suspect the insulation on the firewall was damp due to the evaporation from the floor board. Or it could be that the water settled on the floorboard rom a leak on the firewall.

Was the door sil removed the last time it rained hard ..??

(I don't reckon your A/C was running while you were at work ..... so, how could that be it ...;))

Are you sure your drivers side window was all the way up ... ??

I'd suggest you put a hose to the car and see if you can find out where the water is coming in.

I hope you get it figured out.

The door sil was not removed last time it rained and the drivers side window was up.

The sil doesn't appear to make contact/seal woth the door so I'm not convineed that it is an issue at this point.

I suspect there could be drain holes in the floorboard that may have come unsealed in the accident.

I doubt (but not sure) that there are drain holes in the floorboard. The idea is to NOT let the water in ....... NOT drain it if the wheel well floods ..... ;)

Maybe the accident left a gap somewhere around the upper part of the firewall that is now letting the water in ...... :iono:

We got another heavy rain today while the car was parked outside. When it stopped I went to check and see how it was affected and it was vry wet again on the floor board same as yesterday right after the rain.

I took a flashlight and looked for any dripping or wet surfaces and found that a rubber grommet on the leftmost part of the firewall was allowing water to drip inside the cabin.

Unfortunately, to make sure I get a proper seal I might have to partially remove the carpet to make sure I get it done right.

Am I right to presume that you never noticed the issue after washing the car? If it only happens when it rains perhaps the rain is getting blown up/down the door seals due to unusual air movements where you park..


Or it could be your neighbour's dog....

I did not notice a difference when I washed it. Doubt it would be enough water to be noticeable.

I just need to figure out how its getting to that seal and remove the carpet to make sure that is the only place its leaking.

Looks like it was a small Crack in the body glue. Sealed it with silicone. I'll see if that was all it was. The Crack was nearby the hole the is for the wire harness that passes through the driverside firewall

FYI the water was coming from 2 places. the firewall and the top of the windshield. it must have come loose during the impact of the accident. For those interested, it leaked from the top center of the windshield to the drivers side A pillar, down the foot panel, which made it seem as if the firewall had not been sealed properly. after replacing the seal on the windshield all seems ok. no more water in the cab and the humidity has dropped greatly.

Humidity in a vehicle is bad!
