Waxing help.
Do I strip the old wax then apply new wax or can I just wax over the old coat of wax? What to strip the old wax? Do I clay bar then strip wax or wax then clay bar?
|
If you use the same wax, you don't need to strip it. If you want a clean start, do a wash with Dawn then fresh wax.
Run fingers over the paint, if bumpy where it shouldn't be, clay bar then wash/wax. Clay bar will take off wax btw. Dawn does a better job of it though, more even coverage than most will get with the bar. |
You don't need to strip wax every time. You can just reapply when necessary. Just don't try and top a wax with a sealant.

You never waxed your C63 or 370z before? :confused0068:

I feel the pride and hard work and sweat when I do it myself though. I would recommend you get some quick detail, and clay bar the car. Than you can apply a coat of wax. 1) Wash 2) QD/Claybar 3) Wax 4) Rub it in with a microfiber pad or buffing tool Prepare to spend some time :) |
clay bar
maybe its just me, but I would not claybar a brand new car with new paint.

While we are here guys how often do you wax your cars? Monthly? Annually? Just looking for some insight. I waxed my car last week with Turtle Wax ICE. Yes i realize its a cheap synthetic wax but i wanted something fast to offer a little protection till i can do it properly!
Also any tips on clay baring (or a link) would be hugely appreciated!!! |

Both my Nissan sentra and brz are opticoated now so no more waxing but I used to do the sentra 4-5 times a year as well. Once water stops beading like it does with a fresh wax, wax it again. |
