DD and track
Hey guys.
Im interested in building a GT86/BRZ towards track but still be able to daily drive it. Is there any difference between GT86 and the BRZ that makes any of them the better choice? Price is lower on BRZ here in Sweden atleast. What are the first mods to be doing? Exhaust, brakes, wheels, coils? I don't want massive wings and bolts everywhere , i want a clean build so i don't think Rocket bunny stuff is for me. Some attachment to the front and back spoiler and a smaller wing is ok. When it comes to power i would like to go the Cosworth path because the warranty, good enough or will it be to weak you think? I still want a reliable car. Appreciate all the inputs from you all. |

Buy either. Track it stock until your driving skill exceeds the cars abilities. Start "upgrading" things when you know what you actually need to improve. Check your local laws and requirements. Europe has some very specific things you can and can not do. |
If money is no issue and your buying the car and FI brand new. check out the edelbrock SC. they take over the warranty of the car. I would still read what they cover and all. Also I heard they are reliable. Not cheap though.

My car is my only car, I DD and Track, Auto X it.
Here's a list I think the car definitely need. - Brake Pads, Brake Fluid, Steel Braided Line (Not really a must) - Light weight Wheel and Ultra Performance Summer tires (Hancook V12, Indy 500, MPSS) and...that's basically all you need to have a ton of fun on the track or spirited driving. What you dont need as a reliable daily is a ANY kind of Force Induction. Once you go into turbo land..you will need a second car, keep it stock keep it reliable. If you're searching for more power get a faster car (350Z, 370Z), dont spend alot of money for a little bit of power and a lot of headache. The twin is a momentum light weight RWD Japanese sport car. |

Cosmetic mods can be reasonably planned in advance. I knew before buying the car that I wanted it lower, louder and longer (Spoiler on the trunk lip) and that is what I bought. I at first fell for the "needs more power" statements and planned to SC it as soon as warranty was up. Then I actually got and drove it and couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about since it has plenty of power for MY driving needs. Saved myself some cash and potential headaches. Performance mods need to be determined by each individual after they have driven the car and decided what needs to change (if anything) to meet their driving style not what others have felt they needed to do. There are many modified cars that don't get used anywhere near their potential but are simply Instagram likes fodder. |

Tires once the OE ones are gone, put all your money into seat time, maintenance and consumables. After that it's all compromising daily comfort for track performance. |
External oil cooler and maybe heat shield tape on the ignition coils.

Track experience, goals (ultimate lap times, driver education, wheel to wheel racing, daily driveability, etc), budget, and rules/laws are basically what helps to dictate a track car build. Tracking my car actually made me spend less money on mods. Tires, pads, and maintenance is where I kept it. It was hard to justify spending money on parts when I was keeping up with or passing up dudes with suspension and engine mods (super duper fun). Not to mention, I still have lots of improving to do as a driver. <--This is the part that a lot of people have trouble accepting, and try to mask it with unnecessary mods. However, I understand both ends of it. Different strokes I guess...Get out there and have fun:burnrubber:

Im the kind of person that if I'm going to start running ill get the best pair of shoes i can get for money ;) If its something that should make me go slow its my physic cause thats what I'm running for to improve. But here i should prolly go stock from start and learn the car and handling but still, its a lot of fun to improve something and make the car look better so little something here and there i think i would go with anyway. |

If you want some modding fun then stick to the cosmetics at least until you learn the car. since cosmetic mods are subjective to taste you can go to town and change whatever you want regardless of track or DD. |

The EBSC is not directly compatible with the 17 manual cars. Maybe the 17 autos too, but I can't be sure on that one. I am having to swap alternators to make the EBSC fit onto my 17PP car. The alternators have plugs in different places than the 13-16MY, and this wont allow the SC housing to seat all the way onto the engine. But the kit otherwise has been great to install, if your interested in hearing how the fix goes let me know. Edelbrocks R&D have not had a 17MY car yet to test on, and they mentioned that they have not cleared the kit for 17s. In fact I am the first one I know to try and install the kit onto a 17 Manual car. I believe the alternator swap will work though. I have one on order, and it should be here this week. |

My back get's up when people say they need more for daily driving or if they just randomly pick a level that "it must have" and have never even driven the car before. How did 300HP become the magic number that the car "needs"? There is no bad reason to want more power as long as you know why you want it and not just because some random people on the internet said they need it. Plan on street racing? Need more power (and probably bail money). Want a dedicated drag car? Need more power (and a shitload of everything else). Trying to keep up with the big boys on the straights at the track? Need more power (there will still be somebody kicking your ass). Aim is to gather as many Instagram likes as possible? Need more power (and probably better slam it as well). Can't keep up with traffic or Joe Racerwannabe said it is too low on power to be any good? Learn to drive it! |
If it is an option, consider a Camaro SS or a Mustang GT; these are excellent DD/Track cars and a LOT faster if that is a goal. I have a supercharged BRZ with Ohlins and many other track mods and it is quite fast. I also have 2017 Mustang GT and stock, it blows the BRZ away on track and is just as fun.
