Stealth Amp install behind rear panel (JL HD and Alpine PDX)
 

Seen a lot of posts talking about installing an amp in the rear speaker location but haven't seen one yet. Installed a PDX-M12 and JL HD 600/4 behind each panel. The great thing about these amps are that they are similar sizes with each other and their own respective lines.

Wanted a stealth install while keeping my spare and tools and maximum trunk space. Other than an amp rack under the rear deck and in the same place as the foam underneath the trunk liner, this is the only location I can think of. There is no clearance under the seats for these amps and I'm not too fond of that location in general.

I fabbed a mounting plate and brackets to hold each amp, using sheet metal and flat metal stock which I bent to shape and mounted using the oem speaker screws. Total cost is around $10-20. I could've made it more sturdier but I'm pretty confident it will hold up. Added deadener to the sheet metal and contact surfaces to compensate and I think there is very little rattle from it if any.The amps are mounted on the backside facing outwards. The panel fits back perfectly with no modifications.

Forgot to take pictures of the amps actually mounted up. Just imagine a bunch of wires poking out the backside...

Thanks man. You mean between the oem plastic trim and my mounting plate? I did not. Actually, well i could be wrong but the plate actually has enough clearance so that they do not contact at all so didnt feel the need to. I did add deadener to prevent the plate from rattling to the back surface tho after i took the pics.

My current amp is a Audison Voce 5.1k, and its a monster..
only place i could find to put it was behind the drivers seat, where the rear cushion was,. since that seat is pretty much useless..
Still need to make a trim panel to go over it, going to design it so it looks like a seat cushion there, with some cooling fans to keep the heat down.
