Traction Control Issues

Sorry if this is the wrong post location- Mods please move if need be.

2014 BRZ, E85 tuned from MotoEast, everything was running as expected, stock rims/tires.

After adding the following:

CUSCO REAR MEMBER SIDE POWERBRACE
CUSCO REAR END POWERBRACE
CUSCO DIFF MOUNT POWERBRACE
CUSCO FRONT MEMBER POWER BRACE
CUSCO FRONT LOWER ARM POWERBRACE PLUS
CUSCO REAR LATERAL SWAY BAR BRACKET
CUSCO ENGINE ROOM POWER BRACE
CUSCO OS TYPE REAR STRUT BAR
CUSCO SWAY BAR: SCION FR-S & SUBARU BRZ 2013 (20MM/FRONT)
CUSCO SWAY BAR: SCION FR-S & SUBARU BRZ 2013 (16MM/REAR)
RS-R Sporti Custom Spring Rate - 5kg/6kg

The car has started to break traction (the light pops up but no feeling of loss) in 3rd, 4th and 5th on WOT.

I know the car is far more ridged, with all the bracing added, do I need to have the T/C re-programmed? and if so how do I communicate that to my tuner?

UPDATE - My current alignment

Caster - 6 deg
Camber f 0, r -1.1
Toe 0

Thank you!

Also will be moving to RPF1s with new tiers, if I need a t/c retune I'll wait till the new rims and tiers are put on and aligned.

Do you actually lose traction, or does the ECU "think" you're losing traction?

Cockatoo 04-04-2017 04:50 PM

Traction control settings could be changed with eh tune... but IMHO the best thing to do would be to upgrade your tires to take advantage of all the rest of your suspension mods, which you are already planning.

I do not "feel" the car breaking loose, 3/4/5 WOT I am normally going straight so it's hard to really know, I do feel the car "slowing" itself. If you know what I mean.

The tune is what I am thinking is required, well after my new rims/tires go in. The question would be how do I communicate the T/C tune to my tuner? Just give him a list or my suspension mods and tires I am using?

What tires are you planning on getting? If you get decent tires, the traction issue wont be a problem anymore.

Picking up some Federal 595RS-RRs (RFP1s) for track use and 595RS-R's for daily on a separate set of rims. 235/40/ZR17. The 235s from what I have seen and read come in a bit wider than normal.

My assumption would be swap wheels, get an alignment see if I have T/C issues if so call my tuner. MotoEast tunes are remote for me, but I am a few hours from Delicious tuning and HG motorsports.

You're not gonna have anymore traction issues with either of those tires... But yeah if you haven't had an alignment after all that stuff that alone should most likely take care of the issue

TrqlessWonder 04-05-2017 12:50 PM

All that stiffness should just make the car unpleasant. It's still the tires doing the work, and they've got springs and shocks in between them and all that bracing.

Which I think is what you'll find to be the likely issue. You swapped out all of your suspension bits, for fancy ride-height adjustable coilovers during that flurry, and then proceeded to not align it or set the ride height correctly. :slap: That needs to be job numero uno after doing that.

Do that first, and just for everyone, this alignment isn't a job for your local MidAdvanceZoneBoys chain garage. If they aren't asking you what settings you're looking for, it's not the right shop. If they even seem hesitant about adjusting outside of what the computer says, it's not the right shop.

Nobody has mentioned this yet, but you can't tune the TC settings. They are not part of the ECU but are controlled by a different module.

It's not clear, but if you didn't get an alignment after doing all the changes, do that first.

redlined600 04-05-2017 02:50 PM

Start with the cheapest easiest things first

-Alignment (if you haven't)
-Re-zero the Stability system (google zero setpoint or something to that effect)

Then see where you're at.

I think we can all agree you're not actually breaking traction in 5th, 4th and probably 3rd in a straight line.

You can definitely tune traction with Ecutek....

jvincent 04-05-2017 05:24 PM

Not trying to split hairs here but the terms are important.

Ecutek does not tune the Traction Control System on the car. It controls engine output based on wheel slip. The TCS and engine ECU are two entirely different systems.
