Replacing Analog Speedometer
Pretend for a moment that you're on team FT86 at Toyota/Subaru, and you've been asked to replace the analog speedo on the dash with something else for the 2018 model year refresh. What would you do?

Working oil pressure and temp gauge.

However, after losing an engine I think I understand why the oil pressure gauge wasn't included. When the oil pump failed in mine, the damage was catastrophic, but it happened within seconds. An oil pressure gauge wouldn't have told me anything the idiot light didn't. If this engine gets loose enough as it ages to show low oil pressure on a gauge, I suspect a catastrophic failure will follow too quickly for a gauge to accomplish anything. These engines seem to have two operating conditions: go or shatter. They're made to run until they don't, and then you throw them away and replace. |
A custom configurable digital display that can show any sensor information on the car, can also depict the real status of everything in the traction/stability systems, and has an integrated lap time feature.
I don't ever look left of the tachometer of the dash in this car, the redundant and practically useless analog speedometer render it stupidly useless. Something a little better and more integrated than what I'm currently using: https://photos.smugmug.com/Cars/Stil...Interior-B.jpg |
Come on, aftermarket! You could almost stick a small tablet in there and use Torque or something similar.

Oil temp gauge, since the sensors are already in the engine...
|
Full Motec system :P with oil temp, pressure, water temp, and customizable for track and such.

You could easily fit 3 gauges in it's place, so as mentioned above, oil pressure and temp would be at least two of them.
Glad I'm not the only one who fails to see the point of having a digital speedometer right in the middle of an analog one. |

Besides the old guys would just confused by those number flashing by. |
Instead of that wacky rectangular LCD that they put in the 2017s, they should have done what Mazda did and put a circular display in the Speedo area.
http://wardsauto.com/site-files/ward...is%20gauge.jpg My brother just bought a 2016 CX-9 and the display is lovely to look at. Toyota/Subaru could configure it to display all the cool stuff they have in the current model and more. |
Why not keep keep everything!?

Huh. Does that mean the S2000 wouldn't be sold in those places, since it uses just a digital speedo..? |
