Which deal seems better?
 

What's up guys, so I seriously intend to purchase a Brz within the next 1-3 months considering my wrx is on its last legs.

Anyway I found two interesting deals.

One is a private seller who is asking 17,500 for a 2014 brz, with 33k miles

Are 33k miles considered a lot for this car?

second seems a bit more of a bargain, in my opinion. I have a 2015 and am at 34k miles, so 22k seems pretty on point being that i tend to drive more than the average joe. I bought mine with only 128 miles, so all the miles were myself.

I looked around at a few dealers (mainly test drives!) but ultimately ended up buying from a private owner. Thing is, most all of the time at a dealer - you never really know who owned the car. I bought my 2013 in January from the original owner with 11,000 miles on it. When buying private, I try to find original owners. I see if I can go to their house. How have they kept the car? Did it live in a garage? How did they keep it maintained? Dealer, indy shop or self? Also how do they keep their house/garage? I like to sum up the owner of the car along with the car. Then, you have a much better idea of what car you are buying.

Sorry, I got a little off topic. I guess my point was... buying private usually yields a better deal (in my opinion), if you choose right.
And no, 33k is not too high mileage - if the car was cared for properly and not abused. Good luck in your search!

Here's some things I'd consider:

Both mileages are completely reasonable, KBB puts the average 2014 BRZ mileage at 44,000. https://www.kbb.com/subaru/brz/2014/...ntent=buy-used

As far as can be figured from the pictures, looks like they've both been taken care of but the 2015 definitely has some sort of aftermarket exhaust on it, which could be a fix/change (read: more money) if you're not into that sort of thing or don't like the one they've put on it.

The one at the dealer has been there a long time (3 months almost) so you may be able to haggle a better deal, although with only 12k miles I am not sure how much better. My car is a 13 with 21k miles, and because of our crappy winter up here the dealer couldn't sell it and were trying to take it to auction and also dropped the price $2600 before I got out to look at it.

Both are below the market value as determined by car gurus but you might also punch in the numbers on KBB and see which is better.


I'd have some questions as to why they've both had 2 or 3 owners though. Get the carfax before you buy!

Or a 3rd option, help a fellow forum member out and drive down to Houston and pick up my great car, 2014 WRB with 14.6k miles. Single owner, I've got all the paperwork and receipts for maintenance and mods, already supercharged to take care of that torque dip. Asking $23k, but am negotiable.

As for the 2 you listed, 2015 option has less miles and should still have some warranty if that matters to you. Also the pictures are better than the 2014 one, can't hardly see much with the dark pics.

I'd save $5k and get the older one.

It depends on what you want, if this is a car you plan on obsessing over, only driving when the weather is nice, detailing monthly, etc. get the lower miles or else you'll kick yourself always questioning if there's something the previous owner did (like god forbid a burnout or track day) and if every rattle and clunk is imminent failure.

If this is a car you're going to drive every day, you are going to rack up tons of miles on it, you expect it to get door dings, you are going to beat on it rain or shine, it will be filthy sometimes, it will be parked outdoors, you're going to go autox-ing and to track days, save $5k for replacing consumables and getting seat time.

Most are somewhere in the middle, but this car taught me that I am 98% the latter. To my knowledge there is no significant change between '14 & '15 model years.

To be honest don't worry too much about the mileage on these cars, I have a 15 FRS myself already at 47K and have zero problems it's how you take care of these cars and properly cared for these engines will go thousands thousands of miles a few here are already at over 100K. Remember these cars are meant to be driven not garage queens.

Try harder maybe you will find a better deal than this...

Looking at the links today, the 2014 has dropped $1,200 and the 2015 is no longer available. The 2014 seems like a great deal to me.

Its amazing that most people wouldn't want to buy a used a car thats seen AutoX or track days when they plan on taking it to AutoX and track days.

I always think of it as dating a really hot girl. You know you're not the first but do you really care?

I got mine for $18K with 28K miles on it. 2013 BRZ Limited, zero mechanical issues besides some very minor wear and tear cosmetic scratches and worn out tires.


I once read somewhere in this forum a few months back, "pick a color and buy it" or something along those lines. So far, so good. I say go with what makes you smile more.
