Started from the bottom LS Swap

I always liked the 86, but the lack of power was a turn off for me...until I saw that they make kits for LS swaps now...well... are starting to make kits. So I orderd up a BRZ expecting that bybthe time it arrived the swap components would be figured out and available. The idea was to have a v8 BRZ with all the factory features of the car working. The car showed up but not all of the swap components are available yet...so I'm gonna start from the bottom and work my way up. I ordered all the suspension and other components I think I'll be needing for the car to be able to handle the power with out any problems. Some stuff has already arrived |

Big Brembos. Color matched the logos to the car http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_0955.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_0954.jpg s52 http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_0959.jpg |

Pretty sure this is the biggest tire that will fit under the fenders with a some persuading, hopefully 285/30/18 is enough tire. |
|
Once the wheels, sway bars and coil overs show up I can start putting it together
|
Nice project! Looking forward to seeing those 285s under the stock fenders!
|
Me too, with all the adjustability, maybe I won't have to roll and pull the fenders that much.
|
Those calipers:drool:
|
Yes! Now I can drool over your build! Excited to see the progress!

I've driven it twice since I brought it home in January... thinking I'd keep the miles low on the factory drivetrain for when I sell them. Looks I'll be driving it a little now as I set up the suspension. |
These showed up today...
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1008.png http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1005.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1004.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1002.jpg Volk ZE40 18x10 +40 bronze. I've had HRE, I-Forged and Nutek 3 piece wheels on other cars... they were all bad ass wheels but the way these Volks are made is pretty impressive...never had a wheel like this. The minute details that are hard to see in pictures are impressive, very clean design. Of all the wheels I've had these carbon barrel Nutek 710's were my favorite http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_4832.jpg ...but now after seeing these Volks in person, I think I have a new favorite wheel. |
very nice, looking forward to seeing whats next
|
Damn dude, can't wait to see how this goes!
|
Was worried that these big ass brakes wouldn't fit...but they do...phew

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1086.jpg Mounts showed up today. I ordered the engine yesterday...garage is filling up with parts! |
More stuff today
Full blown radiator. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1129.jpg And a Full Blown 8.8 rear end w/3.55 gears. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1133.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1132.jpg Almost ready to start tearing into it! |
This, is a build I can support! Can't wait for updates.

This car should be a lot of fun. Trying to get the parts right all in the first shot...I'm sure I'll have to change things here and there but so far I think it's all gonna make for a great combo. Doubled up on a radiator pic...was supposed to be this http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_1128.jpg I also received the full blown fuel components, 485 pump and return fuel system...all loose pieces so I didn't bother with pics |
What variant LS did you end up going with?

. . . . . . . Nah....Texas speed 418 LS3...started out as their 630hp turn key package but since I'm planning to run a Motec setup I dropped the electronics and wire harness and cranked up the motor a bit. With the changes I asked for and Texas Speeds recommendations, I hope it will end up closer to 650-700hp but after fitting it into the BRZ, intake, exhaust and other packaging issues, I expect it to be somewhere in the 500-550 rwhp range...putting my trust in Texas speed as to the actual power it makes. |

These came in, nice surprise... forgot I even ordered them haha! Racer X rear upper control arms. |

Hahaha. Nah it came fed ex...that was fromanothe shipment and I didn't want to damage the wood floor in my office!
|
Two big boxes arrived this week!
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_2415.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...n/IMG_2416.jpg Most of the hardware is here...looks like the Vorshlag headers have been redesigned and the ETA has been pushed back a bit...no biggie...almost ready to start in on the rear end. |
So all my pics are dead oh well.
So finally...I started in on my LS swap project this weekend! Swapped out the stock 4.30 diff for a 3.55 8.8 Ford rear diff from Full Blown Motorsports. I also went to solid SPL subframe bushings, all the SPL arms and links, Whiteline sway bar with reinforcements and links, solid polyurethane rear diff bushings, and the MCS coilovers with vorshlag mouthing plates. The subframe bushings were super hard to remove...I remembered reading about people stripping subeframe bolts as well so I was cautious about tightening the bolts when I was putting it back in. The factory bushings have ovaled holes so the subframe can move to allow the bolts to be threaded properly. These solid bushings just have a round hole so it was difficult to get all four bolts threaded right. I made sure I had all four bolts started a few turns then jacked the subframe up the last half inch or so into place and tightened the bolts. The lack of "slack or play" in these new bushings makes it hard to get them threaded and tightened. If I didn't know to be cautious, I probably would have stripped one or damaged the threads a bit. The SPL arms and links are pretty straight forward. It's gonna be a chore to get them all adjusted since I changed every arm but not as bad as I originally thought it would be...you initially adjust them to be the same length as the part you're replacing and then adjust from there. I gotta find a place to run the line for the reservoirs on the coilovers into the car. I want it to be clean and accessible from the trunk. Anyways good start to this project. The diff also went in pretty easy....so far, this part of the project was tedious but easy. https://i.imgur.com/6Y9RMKD.jpg Beefy axles shafts https://i.imgur.com/0hVPbXY.jpg https://i.imgur.com/oOnWSWa.jpg Pretty sure I installed the rear sway bar upside down but I don't see how it could cause any problems this way. It's clear of everything...any thoughts or input? https://i.imgur.com/9ulc3cm.jpg https://i.imgur.com/MZ6wjOo.jpg |
Finally an update.
All the suspension, the brakes and the wheels and tires are on. Woo! Good Luck! You might look at removing the bumper/radiator support/radiator. Makes the entire front open and installing/removing engine/trans so much easier. Also gives a lot of room to work around things.
