I had mine replaced last week.....issue gone....for now...
This just happened to me yesterday. When I got back I rubbed Toyota/Subaru all purpose lube on it and generally just worked the seal until its shaped returned to somewhat normal, and kept applying it. I also cleaned the rubber residue off the window to help it slide over the seal instead of folding it up. Another thing, when I took the seal out, I noticed some minor rust happening and cleaned it right away, as well as there seems to be a yellow clip behind the screw that hold the part of trim where it starts the bend down the A-pillar-I'm wondering if removing this yellow plastic piece will help make a difference as the rest of the screws do not have it and you can see an imprint in the back of seal at that location which also happens to be where the seal gets caught and folds up? Hope this helps and we can solve this. Also I think there is an adjustment possibility in the door for the window track to compensate.

Damn add me to the list. not sure how long its been happening but noticed it this evening. In the middle of a road trip and this starts happening. lol
When Toyota fixed my seals they replaced both door seals and weather strips. Also they recalibrated how the windows sit in the door so the windows wouldn't pull on the door seal as it rolled up.
Its a mix of the original factory shipped door seals being dried out piles of trash, the clips in the door not holding the seal in place and the window itself not being properly seated in the door. I notice that the new seals are much thicker and seem less stiff and brittle than the last seals did. Both doors are fixed now and I haven't had a problem with it since the work was completed about 2 months ago. |

Here's what mine looks like. I emailed Corporate as I won't have a chance to get my car to the dealer probably before the warranty expires. I wanted to document it and give them a chance to start earning the reputation they seem to think they have with dependable vehicles.
Mine's been doing the same thing. The most annoying part is that the pinching on my window is causing some bubbling on my tint.
Squished seal
My BRZ is doing this now on the drivers side.
I also now have the window scratches (according to some posts, thre are felt guides in the door and if they come off, it can scratch the window.) I wonder if it's enough of a movement when those fall of to be causing this seal issue. Anyone able to check that? |
Corporate got back to me and said that since I've documented the issue with them they will "work together" if I need support after my warranty is up. I guess that's good-ish news.
Mine only does it after it rains or a wash along with the squeal. I just pull it back and it returns to normal.
Anyone with a 2013 build date have this problem?
I still haven't replaced mine and now when I wash the car I get some water inside the window, I guess it will get worse and worse with time.
Had my drivers side fixed Tuesday at the dealer under warranty. Next is the passenger side.

This is starting to look like it may be part of regular maintenance once every 3-4 years or something. Of course they could be holding up better than people expect and they just look funny (barring the folding over misalignment issue). |
actually is water dripping in the inside the galss down to the door panel, I'm going to take a picture as soon as i wash it again
My driver window smashes and pinches the upper part of the rubber seal. Looks like shit I can see it in corner of my eye. Hate it
I noticed this happening to mine today... looks like a trip to the dealer will be happening soon enough.
This is now happening to me. 2013 BRZ, 10,000 KM.
Only driver side is doing this. Passenger side is fine. Usage is not the cause as I always roll both windows down, and even if so, this is a defect from the engineering department. Been raining the past few weeks and temperatures have dropped, but I park in a heated garage... |
Give the window and the seal a good cleaning with warm soapy water. This fixed my issue permanently. Worth a try.
My passenger side has been doing this for a long time. The other side has recently started. No leaks yet on either one.
This is happening on mine... It's @ 8500 miles and lives in a garage.
mine was replaced a month or two ago. the guys at the dealer had no problems taking care of it for me
My dealership has been good to me so far for most of my issues, but this one they won't take care of me because of the tint. They're blaming the tint is causing the window to be "out of tolerance" with respect to the door seal and they won't replace the seal.

my car freaking came tinted from the dealership when I bought it I wonder what their excuse would be. I hope they pull this shit on me so I can ridicule the person. |

September-30-2013 - BRZ in for warranty service now and as a replacement I got the 2014 Subaru Forester (6MT) It has pretty cool features, but NO WHERE NEAR as fun as the FT86's... October-01-2013 - So far I have nothing but good things to say about my experience with Subaru. I went in today to pick up my BRZ; all parts are on order now...which includes new window seal and new front quarter triangle window. Will be going in one more time at least to get them replaced. http://i44.tinypic.com/23l1ue1.jpg |

Add another
Here is what is happening ([ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrXPwVnCXys"]Scion FR-S Window Seal Issue - YouTube[/ame]). The dealer just had to replace my drivers side window seal with 10k miles. I wrote Scion corporate and explained in detail and suggested they get to work on an SB. My case number was 1310080912 reported to Scion on 10/08/13 and was acknowledged by a Greg Shono and passed on to National Headquarters Tiffany Harris. So hopefully everyone who has this problem will jump on board and start writing Scion at the following email address (scion_mail@scion.com). BTW... I have the factory tint which was installed at port and is listed on my window sticker when I purchased car. The window tint has no bearing on this problem from all the posts I can read, but I bet Scion tries to use it as an excuse to keep from spending the money on redesigning the seal and or window to fix the real problem.. wonder what there answer will be to us who had factory installed tint? remove tint? no sir. If they wanna do that, I want new glass with tint built into glass.. open your wallets scion.

Having mine replaced next week, along with my entire dash, and door handles. Yippie...blah.
Mine is pinched and making a squeaking noise when my drivers side window indexes. I also get water coming in when I wash it.
Same issue
I have the exact same issue. Now it is so bad it does it upon closing the door and is clearly rolling every time door/window is used. I had mine replaced once and a few months later it did it again. I am about to get another replacement. I do not know if there is a solution yet. And I have had tint on the car since the second day I owned it.
@johnb831. This what you were talking about?
Hah. I read this thread before heading to work.
Got into my car, lowered the window, and put it up and low and behold, the seal on my driver's side window is also getting caught as the window goes up. Ugh. I swore I wasn't going to take this car to a dealership. lol. |
it's been about 6 months since i last replaced the window seals and i have had no issues. however, it's been getting colder here in texas, and the nights it hits in the 30's the seal begins to get caught. the weather has warmed up a bit now and it no longer gets caught.
This was actually the thread I was looking for, posted in the other one about the weatherstrip...Oh well haha *facepalm*
My seal does the same thing. I also noticed a dent in my fender with NO damage around it. Anyone else have that issue?
My window freezes hard to the seal and won't roll down, I'm sure me trying to force it down to get a smoke is not helping the seal. Is this the issue being talked of in this thread. I was thiking of coating the seal with Vaseline?

This stuff is top notch and should solve your issue and use it to Treat all the rubber seals.. Small tube, pricey stuff.. But it will Last you a long time. |
Finally happened to mine -- I'm heading into the dealer next week to see how/if they can handle the 'folding seal' issue. Hopefully they've seen the issue before.
Mine has been doing the opposite, dragging the rubber down into the window slot when I roll down the window. Makes a super loud screeching noise.
Roll it up, rubber comes back, all is quiet. Granted it did that after freezing rain and I haven't noticed it since. |
I'm seeing this as well. No extra wind noise but about one time out of twenty the window won't roll back up all the way after I get in the car. It seems to settle in after I hit the window up switch.
