Add mine to the list going in to check with them hopefully today.

kykiee 12-13-2012 02:15 PM

I went to the dealer yesterday to get the Recall ECU Flash and had my window seal checked also. So, my dealer tells me that I have to remove my tints before they install the new seals cuz they say it adds a level of thickness. They want to install it properly and check without the tints. I just laughed and said I would not remove my tints.

P.S. They ordered a new Fuel Pump, new right tail light, and the window seal also. Hopefully, they install the window seal with the tints still on. lol

So if my window sticks I should to to dealership to get new seals?

Cheddar 12-13-2012 02:39 PM

Yup, just go to the dealer. they will probably try to play around with the tension, but they should order new seals.

KAB-FRS 12-19-2012 02:58 AM

I'm going to make a list at the top of the first page to see how many of us have the same issue.

Reflex 12-19-2012 04:46 AM

I have the same issue, it's been around for months already though lol. I should get it checked out I guess, but I've never been to a dealership for maintenance or anything before. Do I have to schedule an appointment prior to going?

Subie 12-19-2012 08:49 AM

My window stuck to the seal for the first time yesterday. It made a loud, disconcerting noise.

TennisHsu 12-19-2012 11:00 AM

Got mine replaced last week, fixed the problem so far.

Mac1235 12-21-2012 10:58 AM

I have this issue on the driver side and I think the only reason we are all experiencing it on the driver side is just frequency of use. I am going to try the turtle wax ICE and see if it helps out. Otherwise I have an appointment next week to visit my dealer.

"frequency of use" should have been considered during the engineering phase, it should not be an issue.

I agree 100%. Not saying it isn't a problem just commenting on people saying only the driver side is failing. Both sides will fail if they are used equally as much.

Captain Insano 12-21-2012 08:37 PM

First really cold day here where I let the car sit at work. Surprisingly didn't have any issue with driver side window. Might put the turtle wax ICE on it proactively anyway...

Jesse 12-21-2012 11:52 PM

i get some pretty good wind noise from my drivers window. gonna try and get a seal ordered.

Cheddar 12-24-2012 08:29 AM

I always lower both my windows when driving so I don't think it's based on use.

tintumz22 12-24-2012 09:17 AM

Can anybody post the information that the dealer can see that this kind of job (changing the seal) was done?

skyre 12-24-2012 08:14 PM

They "re-seated" mine and it came back 3-4 days later. What would I say to the service center if I wanted this replaced?

OrbitalEllipses 12-25-2012 07:42 AM

Anybody getting condensation/moisture on the INSIDE of the driver's side window right about the middle of the top of the window? I seem to see a 4" length of moisture on the inside, about 1" below the edge of the window as if the seal isn't sealing well enough. I do NOT see this on the passenger's side window.

My driver side seal is fine. I have this problem with the passenger side, so frequency of use is not the issue. This may be another fix i do myself with some of this...

It's good stuff and makes a great gasket adhesive as well. I've been using it for years.

They said they will replace it as soon as they get it but there is no ETA on the part since they don't stock any parts for the cars yet.

I want to know if I'm the only one with this issue right now.

HI i also get the same problem espically when it rains its more noticeable when closing the door... the rubber gets pulled up also... which bugss me...

psk 01-30-2013 04:34 AM

i got this issue looked at twice and this was my experience (my explanation to someone in the houston 86 club:

well this was my second time i got the weather strip looked at. the first time i showed them the folding issue and the service guy immediately asked if it was causing any problems. the folded seal didn't cause any issues (as it probably doesn't for you either) but i knew that it shouldn't be folding like that in the first place since the passenger side is fine. however, it seemed like they wouldn't replace it just because it was folding, so i told them it caused wind noise. like i guessed, they didn't replace it, claiming that no issues were found (even after mentioning the passenger side seal being okay in comparison). the second time i went in for the water leak issue, and that's what got them to order a new one. i don't know if they'll replace it just because it's deformed, assholes. hopefully this isn't a reocurring issue, like many of the faults that have been found with our car.

skyre 01-30-2013 10:01 AM

I had to take it to them a second time before they opened a TAS to whether to order a new weather gasket and then I had to call Scion Customer Experience to get the dealership to follow up after 2 weeks.

kykiee 01-30-2013 10:27 AM

my dealer won't look at mine again after taking it to them the first time cause they say my tints could be the cause of it and told me to remove it before looking at it again. lol

Mac1235 01-30-2013 10:44 AM

From what I have been able to gather this is a combination of the angle the window closes at and the composition of the rubber seal. This seal is partial to sticking when wet and having a higher coefficient of friction then it should. Some people have gotten lucky with putting on some kind of reconditioning product that helps the window slide past the seal more easily, but these are only temporary fixes. If they don't replace the seal with another rubber compound we will suffer the same issues again. Because of the tackiness of the rubber it gets pulled up with the window as it closes and doesn't let it slide by, this problem typically occurs in the same spot on all the windows, because that is where the angle is the most extreme as the window closes. I think we either need to find a fix for ourselves, like putting a product on the seal to allow for the window to slide by, or gluing down the part of the seal that is actually getting pulled out of the frame or we hope that Toyota/Subbie will release a "new" weather seal and not have us replace them with another defective part.

this is the type of crap i'm talking about... i mean, WINDOW TINT? c'mon man. they look for any excuse out there.

Cheddar 01-30-2013 03:26 PM

Wonder if they will use that one with my Southeast Toyota port installed tints.....

how do you use that thing? won't it glue the window glass to the rubber weather strip?

I believe he is talking about gluing the back end of the seal where it is mounted to the frame, not the part of the seal that comes into contact with the window.

Did you have to say a certain key phrase or something to get warranty fix or did they not give you any problems? I am assuming you went through the dealership.

TennisHsu 01-30-2013 06:54 PM

No problems, just tell them that your seal is pinching and show them where and how. Mine has been problem free since they replaced it.

^ what he said.
I haven't decided yet if I'm going to fix it myself with that adhesive, or just take in in for warranty work in the spring. On one hand, I like looking after stuff myself, but on the other hand, If I get it apart and find out the seal is NFG, I'm beat.

Take it in now while it is misbehaving and not in the spring when elevated temperatures may cause it to work correctly. Get the free weather seal they are willing to give you :). I think the glue would work nicely because I am almost certain the new one they put in will not solve the problem long term.

I wonder if you can initiate the lemon law when multiple trips and no fix has been found. Anyone considered it or done it?

I feel ya. I'm in the process as we speak. This particular issue with the door seal would not qualify on it's own, at least in WA state. Most states require 30+ days out of service or 3 attempts to fix a "substantial" safety or mechanical defect.

If you are having other issues, you might be able to swing this one in and make a good case, but not on it's own.

skyre 01-31-2013 04:46 PM

Yeah I figured, I looked up lemon law in my state and the keyword was "substantial" so it probably wouldnt work. No other car issues so far.

Silver86 04-02-2013 08:18 PM

I have the same issue as the OP, the dealership has ordered the seal and is going to replace it asap.

scionfr_s 04-02-2013 10:00 PM

I hv a same issue and I bring the car to dealer. The bitch at the desk check it out and said there nothing wrong with it and the only reason cause that because I hv tinted window. I might go back and talk to them. Pissed

Tt3Sheppard 04-02-2013 10:20 PM

Having the same issue here as well.

Bwaahahaha! Sorry...I'm not laughing at you. I'd be pissed too. That's BS.

This is the only face you can give someone who tells you some shit like that when you tell them your window seal is fucked.
