Well, I did it. I finally bought a 2015 MT FRS in Halo this past Saturday. Finally got a good deal, and a great experience at the dealership. They were nice and professional; Castle Subaru in Portage, IN in case anyone is interested. No one was pushy or high pressure.

I have some questions and comments right off the bat:

First of all, I was a little worried because everyone said this car is slow. Maybe the new-ness hasn't worn off, but this car feels fast to me. I drive a V8 Dodge Charger at work, and it's pretty fast but the handling sucks.

On that note, on my first drive home in my FRS I noticed a LOT of SUV's wanted to race me on the highway. They'd get right next to me and match my speed whether I sped up or slowed down. One guy wouldn't give up, so I downshifted and completely smoked him, it was no contest at all. So once again, maybe it's because my previous car was a 2003 protege in bad shape, but this car feels pretty fast to me, even in comparison to my work car.

Question - how do you guys remove decals from the dealer? Anything special I should know about the paint on this car? Or just go for the normal soap/heat/floss/goo gone routine?

Question 2 - Is it frowned upon to change your forum name (or make a new account?) To be honest I signed up as "Protege13" because I wasn't sure I would stick around the forum, but after being on here for a bit and getting my FRS, I plan on staying, but I'd like to change my name.

The storage space in this car for a coupe is amazing. I'm able to fit a drum kit, hardware, etc inside of it. I'll post pictures eventually in the "junk in the trunk" thread. It's pretty incredible.

I've wanted one of these cars since 2013, and the shock that I finally have one still hasn't worn off. I keep feeling like I'm in a rental car, or something. Can't wait to get used to her and eventually do some mods.

The usual heat, floss or fishing wire and goo gone pretty much does the trick to rebadge. Soap and wax that spot after to clean her up.

A lot of people don't understand this car, no it's not an hp monster but it a great affordable sports car that is heck of a lot of fun to wring out. Congrats and welcome to the forum.

You can change your name but you have to request it, it really doesn't matter I would leave it as is.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I think a lot of people miss the point of this car. For me personally, I've always liked small, light cars that are fun to drive around. Big, heavy, fast cars can be fun too... but it's just not my cup of tea at the end of the day. Compared to other small, light cars I've driven... this one feels pretty fast. Feels like a really nice balance between power/weight and physical vehicle size. I feel like I'm in a porsche.

..the "slow" talk was all from unrealistic fools anyways..people are too spoiled with 0-60 times above 6 secs..it wasn't too long ago that our 0-60 times would have been considered awesome

About racing people or people racing you ....... I suggest you just not do that (unless autoX or on a track).

Why not?

Because:

* if its a Mustang (on the straights) ..... they will beat you

* if its some fool in a giant truck or SUV, they may lose track of where you are and merge into your space ..... because they think they are ahead of you

* if it's a soccer mom in a mini-van, she will be distracted yelling at her kids or texting/talking on her cell phone ..... not paying attention who won or lost; so you win ..... whatta ah gonna tell everybody ...... hey, I beat out a mini-van..??

* if you're up in the mountains, and some fool is trying to keep up with you .... just let him pass ..... because if you speed up in the curves he will try to keep up and may crash and burn when he goes off the road ..... then you will feel bad.

Haha thank you! Yes, I'm not gonna make a habit of racing anyone on the streets. Definitely not why I bought this car! That one dude just made me uncomfortable enough after a couple miles that I decided to get away from him, and I was pleasantly surprised at how quick I was able to do so :)

congrats! its a good feeling, isn't it? I wanted this car since it was a concept also, finally able to do it last year.


power is fine, IMO. its faster than a stock 240sx, and power to weight is near identical to the 2004 RSX type S and everyone was bananas about that car. I don't get why this car gets so much crap for its "lack" of power.
the fact that its incredibly nimble is what its all about. I have owned cars with power, and its fun but balance is much more appreciated.


what are your plans for upgrades? what kind of driving you plan on doing?

You'll also get a lot of douches tailgating you, trying to intimidate you. Because the visibility of this car can be pretty low, you will learn to drive defensively and anticipate the stupidity of other drivers by their behavior.

One thing I've found that helps with tailgaters (sometimes, not always) is a TapTurn relay in place of the stock flasher relay. It has a strobe function and a "wig-wag" (alternating sides) strobe function that rapidly flashes your tail lights. When someone tailgates me, I turn on my wig-wag strobes as a warning. About half the time the idiots will back off.

Regarding racing, a dumbass in a Jeep Grand Cherokee tried to ride my bumper into some curves that were nothing to this car at 60 mph and found himself sideways. I laughed. He recovered without crashing (actually a surprisingly good bit of driving on his part) but didn't try to intimidate me after that.

Welcome to the club! I also bought an 86 recently and noticed two things almost immediately:

1. people will randomly compliment you, especially parents with their kids for some reason. It's nice, they all smile and say "nice car", or "my kids love your car" etc

2. douchebags will always act insecure around you in their suped up cars. I don't know if they're saying "I'm faster than you" or if they wanna engage in some racing. Definitely not into that on a public highway, but I suppose it can be taken as a compliment. I tend to ignore them.

I felt like this stuff could be stronger, but the nice thing is doesn't leave behind that oily smeary residue like goo gone does.

I haven't had any trouble using it so far. I completely agree with you on the goo gone residue.

I have a 2005 Mustang GT. Sits in the garage since I bought an FRS. Mustang just does not handle worth a shit compared to the FRS. Gotta sell that Mustang soon.

I've never seen this as being someone wanting to race me. I believe they've just never seen before a car like mine, are wanting to check it out closely. I always ignore it.
