Hi Guys,

I was just wondering. What is a benefit of a weighted Shift Knob?

My friend is selling me his Raceseng Ashiko Weighted shift knob. It's very tempting. I heard it's smoother shift with it. But other than that, is just looks...

I'm also worried about the selector fork. Will it increase the wear since it's heavy?

Thanks for your help guys! :D

I absolutely swear by the Ashiko knob. I bought one last summer and the feel of shifting from the stock knob is a night and day difference. Shifts feel almost effortless and buttery smooth. I also have a Blox shift knob, and while it was pretty good, and a definite difference from stock, the Ashiko is pretty much in a different stratosphere.

So to answer your question,If your friend is selling it for a reasonable price,I'd say snatch it up quick.

I messaged my friend! He'd go for $40. Lmao. I copped it! At least I got both light and heavy shifter in hand. Thank you @Th3rdSun!

I've spent over $650 in my shift set up, which includes:

MTEC springs
Custom shortened OEM shifter
TRD Quick Shift
Kartboy transmission bushing
Raceseng Slammer (and r lock)
And a fluid flush

Why? Bc racecar.
Did I notice any difference? Can't really say bc I changed a lot of things early on and at different times.
Do I love it? Hell yea. Pretty sure I have a really rare set up (given I have a custom cut shifter).

My shift knob sits and shifts much shorter than most Kartboys.

How is that TRD quick shift and MTEC springs? I was looking into those! There's been times where I see my self throwing the gear, while releasing the clutch. I haven't grinded gears yet, but that's what I'm worried of.

$40?! Shit! That's a steal! If nothing else, assuming that it's in good condition,if you end up not liking it,you should be able to get double what you paid for it. Enjoy.

Been thinking of a weighted shift knob as well. Since resting your hand on the shifter is frowned upon and causes long term damage. Wouldn't a weighted shift knob contribute to increased wear as well? I know it's not as much as your arm but still a lot more than the manufacturers intended to be on the shifter 24/7.

That's what I thought too. I heard it'll be a big wear on the selector fork...

Lol honestly, I didn't drive the car stock enough to remember the difference. Also, I can't really comment on how each individual part feels since I've done so much.

But I can say...that I love shifting my current set up vs stock and other manual cars. All my shifts feel solid and I can't recall ever missing a shift, under normal or extreme conditions.

Of all of the silly car myths on the internet, this is onbe of the silliest. The shifter assy is mounted on bracket, fastened to the housing tailshaft. There is no way it loads any internal tranny component.

The tranny is engineered to continously deal wit 200 ft/lbs of force. I don't think my hand, or an oversize shift knob, is going to reduce its longevity.

I could certainly understand not using the shifter as a hand rest from a safety perspective as you might accidently pull or push the selector out of or into another gear. But to cause serious damage to a component, always seemed a bit far fetched to me. However after hearing it so many times on the internet it seemed to be the truth.

Great combination. There's a thread about it on here with lots of info (make sure you use the loctite on the TRD quick shifter).
Higher effort is needed, but there is significantly less slop in the shifter and the throws are even shorter.

That being said, there were times when it felt harder to get into gear (had it happen a few times when tracking).

I have had floor-shifter manual vehicles pretty much constantly for over 50 years, and I have always rested my hand on the shifter. I have never pushed one out of gear, or into another gear inadvertantly.

I do sometimes it with auto trannies.
