Welding a muffler into the OEM midpipe?
Has anyone had any luck replacing the OEM midpipe resonator with a more effective muffler? Looking to tone down my axleback (WORKS ABM) just a tiny bit before I throw a HFC frontpipe on.

You want a larger resonator, yet you want to go with a HFC front pipe.
You should plan your front pipe out first before changing the OEM midpipe... the front pipe will make your system way louder if you do it wrong. |

Or a much quieter catback and then the front pipe matters a little less Also, a HFC frontpipe is a ways off anyway, never defined how long a time "before" was, first priority is getting the system maybe 10-15% quieter. |
i had a cherry bomb welded on to my mid pipe just before the flange to the axle back section. It really reduces drone and lowers the tone of the exhaust.

The ACE Laguna 90 mid pipe is like one big resonator.

I had a small bottle style muffler welded into my stock midpipe -- I instantly hated and regretted it. It was worth the small amount of cash at the time (when the shop realized that a vibrant ultra-quiet resonator wouldn't fit without big modification). It completely killed the tone and thrill of the exhaust, leaving me with a dull bassy exhaust note that was rather boomy. It also felt restrictive in general -- definite loss of 'urgency' in the acceleration. I'm very sensitive to these changes, especially in sound.
If you like your current tone but find it too loud then it is time to either install a Vibrant Ultraquiet resonator, or switch catback/axleback. Nothing else will bring it down enough (ask me about it... I've spent a lot of time customizing my exhaust and welding in different things). Just my 2c! |
I've welded quite a few mufflers into midpipe.... they all increased cabin drone and also scraped all over the place due to sitting lower.
