Wrecks to Riches

I figured I'd start a thread for my project. I bought this car to fix and sell but now that I've got it going I'm thinking about keeping it and maybe doing a LS swap. It's pretty damn fun to drive and it's different then the other subaru's I have, plus the GF wants me to keep it so she can borrow it. I found this car at a auction and got it for cheap (I mean dirt cheap)!!!!!!!! I now have more money in parts then I have in buying the car. I'm thinking I can buy the Weapons Grade LS swap kit plus the motor and trans and still be under the price that I would have paid if I would have bought a used limited BRZ. So far I have replaced the front radiator support, right headlight, right fender, hood and radiator. The front seat belts was locked and the steering wheel airbag was deployed, I sent the seat belts, air bag module, and the steering wheel clock spring to Myairbag.com and for $330 they fixed everything up for me and I had everything back in less then a week. The stock navi screen was messed up and wouldn't work so I ordered the Kenwood DDX916WS off ebay and I have to say I am really liking the unit so for. I have also bought all new speakers and I'm going to put some 6x9 woofers in the ear panels where the crap ass 3" speakers are.

And this is it almost finished. I still need to adjust the fender to hood alignment but its pretty dang close.

I have similar damage on my frs. How much did it cost to repair? Would you mind sharing the PN to the parts you replaced?

I found a junk yard in TN that happened to have a silver FRS that I pretty much got all my parts from. I spent about $1,800 on the bumper, hood, right fender, radiator support, radiator and a few odds and ends under the hood. As far as part numbers I don't have any but I did find a few radiator supports and other parts on ebay from wrecked frs and brz for reasonable prices

You did a beautiful job in rescuing and fixing the BRZ. After fixing the car in such a great way, are you sure about the LS swap instead of an Edelbrock upgrade?

I have looked into it but all I'm seeing is that the supercharger kits make mid to low 200 whp and cost 5 to 6 grand. Then a lot of builders sell the car after it blows up a couple of times or they either do a motor swap for something that can actually make power. I'm used to my STi and my forester xt's power and this is the only thing that really bugs me about the brz. I mean my buddy with a brz slowly (very slowly) pulled off from my N/A 2004 forester xs 5 speed, that was pretty sad!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will not lie I have made fun of these cars for a while but now that I own one I can see why people like them even though they are slow as ballz. I've been wanting a fast car for a while and was thinking of LS swapping my 07 Forester but this just seems like the more logical choice.

Got some new wheels today. I bought them for my wrx but I'll be damned if they don't fit and look really good on the BRZ. Looks like I put a drag pack on the car bhahahahahaha.

Well I found a intake for sale for cheaper then I could find a OEM intake for so I bought it and I'm very happy with the results.

The stock air box wasn't looking all that good and damn the filter element looks cheap

I believe you will need to run a tune and scale your MAF sensor to properly take advantage of that intake.

Yeah probably so but it says it doesn't require any tuning so it should be safe and probably has a better MAF reading then the stock air box with it being all busted up.

Clipdat 03-21-2017 12:20 AM

I wouldn't be so sure about that, but good luck. "Doesn't require any tuning" is bs.

I remember when people first started putting those AirRiad intakes on their 2013s and posting about it on the forum. Lots of reports about bogging, hesitation, poor idle, etc.

But let us know how it works out, I'm not trying to discourage you, but rather just give you a friendly heads up.

Drives just about the same as before. No bogging, hesitation or poor idle. But I might be wrong I mean these things are slow as Christmas and I'm used to a lot more power.

not bad, good luck with the build

Glad to see another successful rescue of the Twins. My 15 FRS had a similar damage on the left hand side but rescued her and absolutely have no regrets, no monthly payments to deal with :) ftw.
