Thunderhill Skid Pad

Does anyone want to share the Thunderhill skid pad for a day? marusteri and I are looking for one more person to rent the skid pad with. It'll be $600 total, $200/person. We'll self-organize to setup courses such as figure 8's and slaloms. This isn't a "drift day", it's for practicing car control for track and autocross. Hopefully by the end of the day, we'll have more confidence and skill to push our cars harder.

If we get enough people to make it $100 or less each I'm in.

The cost goes up for every car you add. It never gets cheaper really

$650 for 4 cars then $100 for every car after that

OR you guys can go with SpeedSF Track Days (speedsf.com), they typically rent out the skid pad along with their track day. It'll be cheaper than trying to rent out the skid pad on your own.

NCRC (ncracing.org) typically doesn't rent out the skid pad but if there's enough interest, pre-negotiations with NCRC can work something out. Still be cheaper again just because the track will be rented by a larger organization.

Then again, many large organizations will have the skid pad available just because it's on the premise. I've seen skid pad available for $50 per car. Do your search or you can PM if you need help talking with SpeedSF or NCRC.

I might be interested in joining in the skid pad depending on what day it ends up.

Isn't that primarily a drifting only event when speedsf does the skid pad though? Or are you talking about something else? Everytime I'm there for a track day and the skid pad is available, there are a bunch of serious drift cars and it's all drifting.

Unless I'm wrong I don't think speedsf advertises the availability of the skid pad as a "drifting event". Granted speedsf has a lot of friends but they also have a lot of different levels of drivers. They group together sure but I've seen both absolute beginners trying to do more 'autocross' driving barely having tires scream to the advanced drivers really going sideways.

Serious drifters just tend to utilize the skid pad at the least possible cost to use regardless what larger organizer rents the entire place. They've already spent a ton of $ on setup, mods, and tires. Wait, that sounds like track guys too :burnrubber::bellyroll:

Just like you would rent the skid pad on your own, one or two cars at a time. If track management strolls by and multiple cars at the same time look silly or unsafe, they can regulate.

Sorry for late response, this is going to be on hold as plans are changing a bit. I'll create a new thread when I'm ready.

The problem with this approach is that you will be sharing the skid pad with 20+ others and you won't be able to set up the courses you want. Doesn't look like a good value for $75 compared to renting and sharing the skid pad yourself.
