How often do you break traction/slide?

Just curious... I realized that I try to slide at least a couple times a week just for fun. And now that I want new tires/wheels, it is getting close to daily. Nothing huge... just kicking the tail out when no one is around. After all, isn't that what this car was designed for?

stevesnj 03-07-2017 09:03 PM

:burnrubber::burnrubber::burnrubber:

As long as no one is close to me I do a kick out once a week. Every now and then I kick on the 86 nanny and do some donuts in an empty lot to reminisce the fun I had back in the day. But powerslides are my favorite, no not drifting, powersliding. Much more fun IMHO. I have though enjoyed taking the car to the track. I like the fun/safety aspect and timing myself and seeing improvement.

Sometimes she breaks traction even when I'm not trying. Those Prius tires seem to encourage the behavior. lol

cjd 03-07-2017 09:19 PM

At an event? A lot. That's almost every spring/summer/fall weekend. On the street? Not if I can help it. Not worth it.

LOLS2K 03-07-2017 09:26 PM

You need to update your poll because I didn't find an option for me. I break traction/slide daily in my Prius.

I have broke traction in a Prius. Scary as hell!

Sapphireho 03-07-2017 09:38 PM

With 310 hp I can break traction with ease, even with Pilot super sports. I do it regularly, but safely.

Kutanks 03-07-2017 11:00 PM

Lmao at "I drive a Prius" my family has owned four but I refuse to drive them after I put mine into a tree. I don't care if gas was $10 a gallon those are the worst. I shouldn't complain because it was a free car and it barely ever broke but damn was it boring

FR-Sky 03-07-2017 11:01 PM

this car is very easy to break traction and swing tail if you do a U-turn or 90 degree turn with high RPM

Hell I can do that at very low rpm...in 1st gear :bellyroll:

humfrz 03-08-2017 01:57 AM

Very rarely ....... unless by accident on wet roads.

Every damn day...

...as I 3 wheel out of my driveway trying not to scrape.l

guybo 03-08-2017 06:47 AM

I didn't put daily because there's 1 day a week I don't drive my car....

But usually it's just powersliding around a corner when I'm alone and the road is very wide. The nannies keep things from getting too exciting.

arrow34 03-08-2017 09:13 AM

I need to replace my winter wheels, they suck in warmer wet weather... I break traction very easily. Kinda scary how fun it is sometimes... once it happened unexpectedly but that was black ice and lots of water. Going back to my summer tires hopefully soon, if the snow doesn't come back...

Wait until the temperature is consistently above 40. Cold is the problem for the summer tires not snow.

I also enjoy driving dangerously on public streets.

bkharmony 03-08-2017 01:21 PM

I've had my 86 two weeks now, and it happens to me inadvertently every few days with nannies on and AT. Lots of gravel and puddles around my commuting area. I'm looking forward to getting out of the break-in period and into an empty lot.

HimBRZ 03-08-2017 02:51 PM

I hit at least one nice corner a day where I step out just a tad and I reserve Friday for finding a parking lot to do one smokey donut with a drift at the end. I understand the appeal of loose, worn tires as I had a lot of fun just before I replaced the OEMs.

Nothing wrong with a little oversteer friend-o.

sofrsnsokleen 03-08-2017 04:41 PM

Just got new tires a few weeks ago because my prius tires were beat already and would lose traction accelerating hard in 1st and 2nd. I was constantly slipping the rear before i changed em. It's fun as hell, one of the greatest perks of the car.:burnrubber:

NOHOME 03-09-2017 11:25 AM

Does not take much to get the traction light to flicker on this car. Pretty much any day when it is wet, I seem to provoke it.

mazeroni 03-09-2017 12:55 PM

"Break traction"

I guess weekly. I like to brake early then just stay on the power through corners, but I am typically within the speed limit, and I stay around 3K, but you reach that point where the car wants to rotate - but it's not crazy and typically I just get that gnarly front-brake intervention that forces you back in line.

+1

But I only get out monthly at this point :(

Mim 03-09-2017 11:09 PM

Only if raining and by accident ie being too enthusiastic for the conditions. Stock tires have more than enough grip otherwise at stock power levels.

Calvin27 03-10-2017 12:16 AM

I wish there was a way i can turn off the aids (Hold left button) and keep it that way every time I start. The only time I've been 'saved by the stability control is on the track on a big sweeper which I went in way too hot.

Best mod on my car so far.

Th3rdSun 03-14-2017 11:46 AM

It just snowed a good amount overnight and I didn't even count how many times I kicked the tail out(totally controlled). If the streets or driveway is any slick,I try to do it whenever I can.

Mattstermh 03-30-2017 05:02 PM

Can i throw out the rear without using the e brake? Im new to powersliding/drifting

Capt Spaulding 03-30-2017 05:55 PM

I wouldn't call it "power sliding" or "drifting," but I do enjoy using the throttle to turn the car.

Yes. You can either slowly go into a corner and hammer it (in a low enough gear), OR come in braking hard, unsettling the rear in the process, and turn in, which will help you rotate.

FRS13_ 04-01-2017 12:13 AM

Once a week after getting a car wash, there's a big empty parking lot with a smooth brick surface that makes it unbelievably easy to slide the car. Lots of fun!

Or just buy a Supercharger.

Nah, fuel consumption takes a big hit. Plus isn't a full kit like 5K lol

e_lunatic 04-06-2017 10:39 PM

can gets plenty sideways without the need of a S/C lol

sniffpetrol 04-13-2017 11:55 PM

I only just got my car but I've been hitting up a local roundabout every night after work so far :)

I think that's called the electric slide

Perfectly said. I didn't vote. I do it every damn time I drive the car but I've driven it about 200 miles in 2017.
