How is p0018 not covered under powertrain warranty....?

Installed my catless borla UEL header with stock front pipe and Tsudo catback @47k miles, and up came, the same day, a p0018 code (Camshaft+crankshaft correlation sensor). Now, from my understanding, this going unattended can cause jumped timing= blown engine. When the lights are on (CEL and Traction light simlutaneously) in between me clearing the code, the car is detuned, but not in full limp mode.

I stopped by subaru to get some input on this problem, and they said that p0018 is not covered under warranty. i don't understand the logic in this. I've done nothing to affect the engine, yet this problem could cause serious engine issues making me curious why it wouldn't go under powertrain.

Good news is that we're in agreement that a header has nothing to do with any of this, so my warranty won't be voided if the culprit is a component which would be covered under the powetrain warranty. Also, I hit up Moto-east - where i'm going to get it tuned once this is sorted - to see if they have come across any incidents where a header caused this problem, and they said absolutely not, as the two are unrelated

Any input, guys?

I thought the warranty was only 36k miles Is there a factory powertrain warranty that is covered longer?

bumper to bumper is 3yr36k, while powertrain is 6yr60k

Go to another dealer and try to get it fixed.
Or get it in writing and then lawyer up.

I'd hate to go down this route. I was told that we have to at least do a diagnosis which will cost $120. Then, depending on what is causing the problem, the powertrain warranty will either cover it or will not. I honestly can't think of any component that could be the cause that wouldn't be related to the powetrain in one way or another. I'm thinking if the problem ends up being covered, then even the diagnosis should get covered.

sorry I meant it's 5yr60k, not 6 years.

Until today I thought it was 5yr50k, not 60k. Regardless, it's better than just 3yr36k, lol

Whoever told you it's not covered is giving you the wrong information. There is a process which involves the diagnosis you mentioned. Don't accept any words as truth unless it is in writing. $120 will be waived if the warranty repair is approved.

I actually had that code come up when one of my O2 sensors on my header somehow backed out. Not sure if they're related but it never came back up once I installed the sensor correctly.

Oh, interesting! I'll have to take a look at that for sure

Was yours a catless header or chatted and did you already have a tune on it when that happened

I haven't tuned mine yet and it's catless. I also haven't even gotten he p0042 code yet for cat efficiency
