Kinnekulle race report:
The Friday started of excellent. I'd been given the opportunity to have Robin Antonsson ride along throughout the day and I totally had a blast! After my first session with him, I cut 1 second off. After the next, I cut another second. I have a totally different mind in regards to work with the car rather than trying to force it to obey me. My driving have become immensely smoother thanks to Robin! I'd really recommend anyone, no matter what level you're on to have him ride along! On the Saturday, the rain started early in the morning. On our first qualifying session, one of my competitors and friend crashed his car quite badly and we had yellow flag in one section during the entire session. On the second qualifying sessions, I start to get a hang of how smooth I need to be in the rain. Just as I pass the finish line on my third lap, Harry's clocks a low 1,09 time which would have been enough for a place in the finals, however, as I exit under the bridge I feel the back is starting to slide and as I start to parry it, it feels like its already too late and I just jump on the breaks. A rookie misstake perhaps, that could have been avoided had I not thought it was just a minor slide. As the car hits the sidebars it springs up in the air and is thrown around 180 degrees. The rest is censored automatically by the GoPro:D I throw my self out of the car as I become slightly chocked with the smell of gun powder and white smoke everywhere. The driver's side airbag and knee airbag as well as the passenger side airbag popped, ripping the dash apart. We have today started to strip the car apart to see what has been damaged and what has not. It looks like I've been really lucky as just one frame beam has been slightly bent, almost at the front most part. A cross measurement says that everything is all right up until the front mounting point of the right side control arm. Now we need to get some parts quick to get the car back on track as soon as possible! To get a proper alignment done we need some frame parts that I've found in Poland. Hopefully I can get them here quickly! Chapter 2: "Get knocked down, get up again"
The car is now, just a week after the crash, properly aligned! https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...032a8326bb.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8b4d186da1.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...093e97e75b.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4e39e27887.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9a577f546a.jpg |
Its been a while but not everything is standing still. The interior is ripped out and I got a cage lying next to the car waiting for someone to weld it in:) The engine runs smooth and I've just got a new Mishimoto cooler.
I have 17 error codes in airbag system. The Swedish MOT equivalent requires 0 fault codes. If I ver want to be street legal again I need to get rid of these. Does anyone have any clue if it's possible to reprogram the ecu in anyway or trick the airbag ecu in any way? I've got no airbags in it at all know and won't put any in again. Also I think I will go rocket bunny now. Some cheap as kit, mainly to cover all the dents on the rear fenders😆 |
Im not 100% sure if it will work on this setup but I know on other cars with airbag deletes you can fit a resistor in its place to trick the ecu its there, I doubt you can easily reprogram the ecu to ignore them missing with it being a safety feature.
if you have a working air bag you could measure its resistance but carefully as it may go off! then fit a corresponding resistor on the car and see if it stops the error, if so repeat with all the bags. |
Found this for steering wheel airbag delete which might work with all others ? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=86415

I know about this bit This is not just one airbag. This all of ren + additional error codes. |

Hopefully our system allow the codes to be cleared as i know on some cars if airbags are activated the complete airbag Ecu needs to be replaced which is sometimes very expensive! |

Ah well I will definatley try😆 |
For those of you interested, here is the TV episode were my crash is featured! I'm amazed how much the rails flex, the probably saved the car from being totaled!
https://vimeo.com/221814514 And this is my substitute car for now! Had a leak from the differential and the oil hit the exhaust. Looks cool😂 It's a 328 with torsen differential, bilstein coils and harder bushings. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...57898bb8a2.jpg |
