This weekend it's time for Elmia (Scandinavia's SEMA show)! The 86 have received the honour of representing the club class for Timeattacknu.se and will be on display on their stand during the entire show!

I've had some really nice chats with people at the expo today! Öhlins continue to blow me away with their knowledge and I've got some nice sponsors on wheels and Motul oil! It feels very good!:)
Tomorrow I'm going to Italy for a small vacation, but the car will be at the expo for another 3 days. Today, me and my sleepy piston racing team mate drove 250km north for tomorrow's media/test day organized by the time attack crew. We drove through snow, hail, rain and sunshine... once there we started to make camp. We live in apartments and have normal jobs - no room or economy for trailers and such hence yesteryear it became sort of our image that we always used a camping tent. This year we have sort of upgraded it. We now have a portable kitchen, a fridge and heating fans. All of this fits into our cars aswell! We're sort of doing this Bear Grylls style but we sort of don't have any other option. This is our camp today in +2C and rain/hail/snow:D

Of course! Been waiting for a few more good pictures!:) As you know, I've had the first test day for the season and before we continue I'd like to point out the conditions. It took place on Gelleråsen, Karlskoga raceway which is also Öhlins test track in Sweden. First of all, since I got a punctured tire on one of my Ad08Rs I've put two old Kumho KU36 225s in the front. My ad08rs are 235s meaning I ran on a staggered setup with different tires front/rear (and old ones too). Also, since I haven't got my brake pads yet I was running on my old project mu ns400 in the rear and a set of new Ferodo DS2500 front that were supposed to act as my emergency spare pads this season. The final corner of the circuit has also been remade which makes it impossible to compare times from last year to present. Instead of being a big U-type corner, the last part of the "U" cuts of fast in the end. It's hard to describe but I'll try to post some comparative pictures when I get to a computer. The overall talk in the Carerra gt3 series is that the track is faster this year. If that also concerns less powerful cars, this season will tell! So, we started of in near freezing temperatures and the track was wet. I was running about 9 seconds slower than last year and thought to my self: what the fuck! Atleast my new Ohlins would set me close to last year's times despite being in the wet. But after a few tries adjusting the damper settings I was down to low 1.20s and eventually when the track dried up I put up some 1,18.9xx times which is slightly faster than what we ran last year. If this is because of the temperature, the new chassis or what so ever, I just don't know, but I have great hopes of going sub 1.17 for the competitive season that we have ahead of us. The only major difference I felt so far is the brakes. It's sort of an epiphany. With the street pads, I can brake from about 180km/h to about 60 were i turn into the first corner, in less than 80 metres! For the first part of a second, when you get on the brakes, it feels like it's breaking hard. Then, after that brief period of time (I assume when my street pads have reached a more beneficial temperature) the car breaks so hard it's crazy! Because of the solid calipers I'm well aware the feeling would be different but this is something out of that league! Also, as AP have said the brake bias have not been changed, this made it possible to trail brake nicely. Perhaps I won't need this when I get proper tires on, but with the screaming ku36s infront it was definatley necessary. Next race will be a standalone competition in southern Sweden were I'm allowed to run R-compound tires. Right now I'm contemplating getting a cheap set of federal 595rsr for the oem 17" wheels or going all in and getting a set of RPF1s or similar together with Kumho V70A R-tires.... any suggestions that would ease my conciousness in regards of spending 2000$ instead of 400, is much appreciated! This is a picture of Gelleråsen, Karlskoga raceway. The red line indicates the new shape of the curve. As you can see, it cuts of suddenly in the second half of the final curve. This used to be quite a tricky turn even before, and now it is even more so. It's a great track though, and very fun as a spectator aswell since you can see the entire track from the stands! |

Next weekend I'm booked for a stand-alone competition in the time attack series. It's a separate event with more basic rules that anyone can show up for. It's on a track in southern Sweden and this separate event is called "king of the south" (time attack here does several of these stand alone events called "king of"). Last year, this was my first ever competition and I actually finished third!
The very basic regulations here are: less than 200hp you can run on R-compound tires. More than that and your limited to "street tires" where the only competitive one is sort of the Yokohama AD08R which is also the limit for me in the series. Since the 86 have 200hp on the paper I've actually found a pair of Toyo 888r and a new set of wheels to mount them on and this would be probably be quite competitive! However, as always in racing I might not get them in time... I'm well aware the triple 8s are not the best tires I can get but they were the ones that could be here the fastest. I still have some hope to get them in time but I'm quite worried. My AD08Rs are taking time aswell and I might not even get those!!! If that's the case I'll have to run the same setup as the previous test day. I'm well aware it's not going to be competitive but at least I'll get some time in the drivers seat:) If your not already following Sleepypistonracing or Timeattacknu.se on Facebook, please do! We both do our updates in English and you'll get a peek on my team mate and best friend's budget E36 325i racer aswell! And this time attack series is the biggest in the world! (More than 100 cars!) Oh, I'm waiting for my Winmax pads aswell. I've heard they've hade some crazy delivery times during the last year and it's getting seriously annoying... My street pads works quite fine but they wear fast as hell... But as they say, "hope is the last thing to abandon man"... Sweet! That is correct! Having a hard time getting the chassi settings right. Last attempt I just tried to put the settings to the hardest and it gave me the quickest times so far. I'm placed second at the moment but there is one more qualifying session before the finals!
