2017 CDC Autocross

The last Captial Driving Club Autocross event of 2017 is Saturday, November 4th in Waldorf, MD. Click here to sign up:

http://capitaldrivingclub.com/schedule.php

If you've autocrossed before you know the drill...

If not, autocross is a super fun and competitive automotive sport where you attack a cone course (usually set up in a large parking lot) as quickly as you can. Autocross and specifically the CDC are VERY friendly to new drivers who are learning/haven't done this before and the FR-S/BRZ is a great platform for autocross.

FAQs and Answers:

1) Costs $30.00 to $40.00 (you can become a member of the CDC for $30.00 a year and get the reduced price)

2) There is very little wear and tear on your car (I’ve been doing it for 3 years, still factory brake pads, and tires replaced due to normal wear)

3) Top speeds don't really exceed 50 mph

4) Automatic or manual transmission is fine

5) Yes you need a helmet, no you don't have to buy one (they have loaners)

6)You are outside all day. Dress accordingly/bring water/wear sunscreen, etc.

HOW TO REGISTER/WHAT TO DO

1) Follow the link above and fill out the form.

a) If you wish to become a member of the CDC, select "yes" next to the question "*Are you a CDC member?" and put the number '0' in the field "*Your CDC Car #". In the notes section at the bottom, say that you'd like to join the CDC. Otherwise select “no”.

REGISTRATION IS AT FIRST ONLY OPEN TO MEMBERS AND GUESTS OF MEMBERS. USE MY NAME (Brandon Kyker) IN ORDER TO SIGN UP EARLY.

b) Tire Type: more than likely "Low Performance Tires with Treadwear Rating >= 201
Vehicle Horsepower: more than likely "151 to 200 HP"
Vehicle Weight: "2,501 to 3,000 lbs"

c) You do not need to select "Optional Classes"

2) Make sure your car isn't broken or anything and try to clean it out before autocross (as you have to take out all loose items etc. at the event)

3) Bring cash (as they only take cash) and I strongly recommend comfortable clothing based on weather and being outside, and bringing a camp chair and a water bottle or two (events go approx 8-9am until 3-4pm). They also serve hot dogs and snacks (again cash only).

4) HAVE FUN!

Please let me know if you have any questions and you may click on the following link for more information about autocross and the CDC:

I do not represent or endorse the CDC in any official capacity. This is purely a recreational post.

Whooppee777 03-07-2017 12:43 PM

Registration submitted.

Bowen 03-07-2017 05:56 PM

I'm not a member, but I tried listing my car number as 0 and then saying I would become a member at the event.

However my registration was denied, can I not sign up until the non-members registration is open?

JakeRogue 03-07-2017 05:59 PM

You'll have to email them I'm not sure

4C on Saturday and FRS for the Sunday test and tune. See y'all there!

PR138 03-08-2017 12:05 PM

Man, I want to be there so bad but I'm stuck upgrading servers on the evening of the 17th until probably 3am. I still might decide to do it, but that sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Hyper4mance2k 03-08-2017 02:27 PM

Shit sells out like N'sync tickets...

White64Goat 03-09-2017 05:57 PM

Non-Member sign up usually opens the Friday (one week) before the event unless things have changed for this season.

JakeRogue 03-15-2017 10:04 PM

Bumpo!

For anyone in the NoVa area who wants to meet up and cruise together to the autocross, meeting at the Starbucks in Tysons Corner at 7-7:15 am (Route 7, Route 66 interchange):

Idylwood Plaza, 7501 H Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, VA 22043

Bowen 03-16-2017 12:02 AM

I wasn't able to get a spot in the autocross event, but I did get into the test and tune, and I'm also signing up to be a member so I don't have to wait to register.

Probably won't have my car back from Ptuning until Saturday morning when they open. Guess I'll catch the next CDC event.

JakeRogue 03-16-2017 02:23 PM

Demand it be ready Friday night

Update for May 27th in Winchester, VA

echan 05-12-2017 12:46 PM

CDC is also giving a $10 for a second slot for the May 27th event. So if you make a reservation for a double slot the cost will only be $50 ($30 for the first and $20 for the second slot) for members or $70 for non-members ($40 for the first and $30 for the second slot - might consider just joining the club if you think you'll attend more CDC events within the next 12 months).

Will this be the case for future events? I would definitely take advantage of it.

We offer the 2nd slot discount typically for this location because of the extra distance that many have to drive. So we try to make if worthwhile for the drive to get 12 runs (or 6 runs for you and 6 runs for your friend at a discounted price) for a discounted price. We don't offer this discount at Frederick or Waldorf. And we won't necessarily offer the discount for EVERY Winchester event because if the Winchester events end of getting too full, we will have to stop the discount (to discourage a second slot) to let everyone in the field.

Scuderia86 05-24-2017 08:01 PM

I tried to register this morning but it looks like registration for this event is closed. I'm even going to be in Winchester this weekend anyway for other reasons, so that's a little unfortunate.

The May 6 event was a lot of fun even with the rain we got in the third heat.

With rain predicted for this one again, I wouldn't be surprised if there were many no shows, you might be able to register on site if you're lucky.

For those autocrossing in Winchester this Saturday and coming from Northern Virginia, meet at 7am in the Kohl's/****'s shopping center (in front of Starbucks) in Fair Lakes to cruise to Winchester:

*PS ****'s Sporting Goods got censored, lol

Got in standby.

Fun facts: The sign on the gate to the parking lot where we raced says "No Parking." I guess that's because it's there for racing. :) I also noticed a pair of cows in the field above the parking lot watching us race.

I think Waldorf is the better venue (really appreciate that they open up the bathrooms to us), but James Wood HS had a lot of charm to it as well. Good event.

Second slot discount at the next event July 15th in Winchester. Here's the details.

SATurday July 15th Autocross

James Wood High School in Winchester, VA is the location of the next CDC autocross on Saturday July 15th.

Registration and tech inspection will be at 8:00 and will promptly close at 8:45 to try to accommodate the full field, while still giving 6 runs. You must be DONE by 8:45. So if you arrive at 8:00 you won't have a problem. Don't arrive at the last minute.

The event fee for the autocross is $30 for members and $40 for non-members at this event.

On-line Reservation System

Member reservations (or participants that will join the club upon showing up) for any events can be made at any time at capitaldrivingclub.com. Open reservations for non-members for this event begin Friday July 7th.

$10 Discount on Second Slot

We will be continuing the $10 second slot discount for this event.

For anyone paying for a second slot, the second slot will be $10 off. So if you are a member the second slot for a member will only be $20. If the second slot is for a non-member the cost will be $30 (rather than $40).

The second slot can be used the same driver (e.g. they would drive in two heats) or for a guest.

If you sign up for a second slot, just type "Second Slot" in the Notes Section. Otherwise, we may think you mistakenly submitted duplicate reservations.

Remember, to make a second slot, MAKE A SECOND RESERVATION (if the second slot is for a different person, type "Second slot for (type the name of the first slot person)".

-Several people used the second slot for a guest (some that never autocrossed with CDC)
-Many participants used the second slot to get 12 runs
-Some used the second slot to be a point autocross in the 6 morning runs (since only the first 6 counted for points) then treated the afternoon as a TNT by trading cars with other two slot participants

This offer is only extended for this event at James Wood HS on Saturday July 15th, 2017.

New Members

We will be accepting new members at this event. If you plan to join the club at this event, you may make a reservation at this time by doing the following:
