2016 key fob randomly not working...

I haven't had my car a year yet and my key fob, today, quit working for a bit. Couldn't lock my car at all. And weirdly, I couldn't lock my car using the door either. It would just lock and then instantly unlock.

After about twenty minutes it stated working again.

I've also experienced instances where the car wouldn't start and there's nothing around the fob to obstruct it.

Happens to me occasionally too. I'll get out of my car and try to lock it with the fob and I have to press it 20 times before it works. Most of the time waiting for a few minutes works but one time it went over an hour without working and I had to use the spare. My main fob is fairly new so I don't see it being the battery.

Did trying the button in the door not work, either? That was the weirdest part to me. Pushing a hardwired button to lock the door and the car still refusing.

Never tried that yet. Usually it happens when I'm walking away from my car to my apartment or work so I've only tried locking it from the outside. Only thing I can think of is that something is blocking the signal from the fob.

I'd suggest replacing the battery anyway ....... just to eliminate that possibility .... ;)

Oh, I'd suggest you get a fresh battery ..... see if that fixes it.

I have experienced this same issue! It's intermittent, but really annoying.

Stang70Fastback 03-13-2017 09:49 PM

I struggled with an issue for MONTHS where the key fob worked FINE for locking/unlocking the car, but the car would NOT detect it once I was sitting in the car until I took it out and waved it around in the cabin.

I tried replacing the fob battery to no avail. I finally connected the dots when I realized that this consistently occurred when the car had been sitting for any length of time, but never happened when I, say, got back into the car after leaving it for a short period of time.

I replaced the CAR battery. Turned out the OEM battery had gotten just a bit weak. It still started the car without any issue, but apparently it was causing the web of keyless entry antennae spread throughout the car to act up. Battery was replaced a month ago and I haven't had a single issue since.

have a friend with a Camry ,would not work when she parked at her office. could not demonstrate at the dealer so they said it did not happen. it turned out that her assigned parking somehow was a hot spot for the local TV broadcast tower, multiple reflections from the nearby buildings. new spot assigned and the problem went away.
probably not the problem but just interesting.

Also notice that if I have the fob in the same pocket as my cell that I have issues

I'd replace it with a optima yellow or red top or the like with a high CCA battery. Considering you have a 14 and most likely the stock Panasonic battery. Which is a crappy quality battery as it is and gave alot of people trouble.

Stay far, far away from Optima, quality is shit and so is the spiral gimmick. Get a flat plate 35 group AGM. (Deka Intimidator 9A35/85 Battery)
