Road conditions

Hey guys. I thought it might be a good idea to have a little spot where we can post up where roads are good/bad, and let others know if any of the popular backroads are closed.

Figured this could be important given the amount of rain our areas have received over the past two months.

Anyways here's what I've found. I went on a good long motorcycle ride today and did some of our favorites. Well, I did my favorites I don't know what yours are.

Palomares road (at the turn off from 84 EB): says closed to thru-traffic. Looks like it took a pounding from all the rain. 84, itself, is fine, though.

Tesla, from Livermore to the 580. No problems. A few old slides that are on the sides of the road, but nothing impacting pavement. Be mindful of the dirt still on the road, though.

Del Puerto Canyon Rd, From the I-5 -> The Junction. Just fine. If there was any damage, it's been cleared.

Mines Rd (from The Junction to Livermore): Oh man. This is where the mud and water and rocks are. It's passable (I did it two weeks ago in the BRZ, but the road has taken more damage since then). There's a lot of mud still on the road. Crews are actively out there right now clearing it. There are at least three places with water crossing the road. The water is deeper than you think it is. Still passable, but be careful. There are a couple places where they've closed one side of the road due to damage. The dirt and mud are still on the pavement for most of the road that Alameda County is in charge of. So, though some of us hate them, I'd suggest leaving the e-nannies on if you're going through there.

Like I said, it's passable...but be careful.

That's just what I've seen today. If people like this, maybe we can have it as a regular space where people can give updates. That way, if someone is questioning whether or not their favorite road is flooded; they'll be able to find the answer a little more quickly.

Stay safe out there, guys. Looking forward to the next big meetup!

Not a bad idea. If you are willing to update this top post that would best i think instead of scrolling through looking for recent info. Otherwise people generally post this info in the drive thread stickied above

I use 511.org, which highlights road closures and roadwork.
Just FYI

My buddy and I been riding through Mines Rd on our motorcycles. We went friday, 3/3/2017, and a lot of the loose gravel towards the beginning of Livermore side was cleared out (was pretty bad a couple weeks ago after the storm). We hit San Antonio Valley Rd. after The Junction for the first time and the road was nice!

Let me know if you want to ride with us!

Also. . . been wanting to take the BRZ out there too!

It's better yesterday Fri (3/10) I think. I don't know how much loose gravel you experienced but yesterday Friday seems like the loose gravel I'm use to experiencing on Mines. Beautiful sunny lunch drive!! Quick nonstop to and from the Junction :eyebulge:

While roads may be open the rain is wrecking havoc on gravel and other debris in the roadway just looking to ruin someones day so good to get a heads up from others out there. Mines alone has claimed many windshield when extra gravely lol

Hey, glad to have seen you on that road yesterday. You're way faster than I am! lol.

Yeah, I'll chime in and confirm, Mines is way better. There's still a couple spots to watch out for regarding steel plates and a stop sign. But it does look good. Del Puerto is still great all the way out.

Looks like Palomares is still closed, to through-traffic, though.

I could go along with this but someone may call out "you drove your FRS?!?" So I won't

 for experiencing the car for what's it engineered for! Perhaps someday we can actually drive together. Are you in the Livermore valley? Chime in anytime. I was in a white 2door e46 (the daily) tho. Thanks for looking out

La Honda has a few areas with draining water across the roadway and some dirt washout because of it. There is also some nice new crack/lifts in the road. Its enough to be unsettling at speed so watch out for it

There are cones and signs in the middle of the road on Tesla. Some or outside the driving lines but some are smack in the middle and even at turn exits.

I wonder if they're starting to shut it down for their next phase of construction. I remember seeing a sign saying they were going to close down another section till like May or something.

It was just signs saying slow entering the sharp turns and others saying slide area. There were only cones in one place and one got knocked into the roadway. Another I have no idea how the sign got there. But both the random sign and the cone were at a turn exit

Don't drive spiritedly on Highway 17, especially if it has rained recently. I ran over a rock there.
