Who Are You Insured With?

As the title asks, want to know who everyone is insuring their car through and why?

Cheers

RAA - about $65 a month. Because they're about $40 cheaper than yOUI and more coverage

Was with Youi since new, 2013, and 2017 quote was for $582 with $1600 excess for GTS.

Changed to Famous this year after they were recommended by a member on this forum, for $642 with $600 excess.

That's for a car with forged rays, headers, MCA's, Exhaust, tuned, etc, etc. Only extra I could have had added to the policy was track day insurance. This is the honeymoon year and the second year and any increase will be the test.

Famous specialise in performance and modded cars but are nowhere near, in my experience, as expensive as Shannon's. Famous, in my dealings with them, were very easy and friendly to deal with but most insurers are till you need to make a claim.

Keep in mind I have 42yr driving history, the car is fully owned, car is garaged when not being used, have a pretty secure premises, excellent CCTV system, car has done just 23k kms in 4 years, I'm retired, at home most days of the week, and have completed several High Speed driving course, all of which I mentioned when I got a quote.

Don't accept your first quote of any ins company. Youi dropped from $750 in 2013 to $582 for 2017. I din't even bother trying to negotiate the $582 this year but I'm sure I could have got it lower. Guy I spoke to last year actually told me to ring and negotiate because they'll always do better if you actually call them.

I should have mentioned RAA was $40 per month cheaper than YOUI. This is for a BRZ - for whatever reason, YOUI was far more expensive for a BRZ then an 86.

I'm surprised track day insurance was an option - do you know what it would have cost and covered?

I just assumed if I ever went out to the track I was on my own

The more of a particular model out there the easier it is to get parts. I'd say there'd be a lot more Gt/GTS than Brz's on the road.

Who would know with Ins companies. They tend to have a one size fits all policy and work on postcodes, crime rate, driver history, and risk, which is why you actually speak to them before signing up so you can explain about the garaging, location, mods, and driving experience.

Re track days: Starting at $100 extra for coverage up to $10,000 worth of damage. But must have a CAMS licences and event must be CAMS sanctioned.

So if you track the car outside of these provisos, yes you are on your own..at least with Famous.
