No Start Condition (Codes P0340, P0341, P0365, P0366)
 

Hello everyone, a few days ago as I left a meet my car lost power and then died on me. I pulled over and attempted to restart it but it cranked oddly and wouldn't turn over. I towed it home and pulled codes P0340, P0341, P0365, and P0366. I'm not sure if it's the camshaft position sensors or maybe my timing chain jumped a two-three teeth. I did swap the right intake sensor and put it on the left side but it threw the same codes. I'm curious if Toyota would cover this under the 6/60,000 warranty but I doubt it.

I've also done lightweight crank pulley and a CF driveshaft if these may have played a role in jumping the timing or something.

Clip sounds like a timing issue and the fact you threw codes for both the A and B sensors is not promising! They may indeed try to blame the light weight pulley as it is part of the belt system.

It's weird that I'd only have a timing issue now. I wonder why there wasn't much leading up to it. Oh well, guess I'll be dropping the entirety of my income tax to get the timing fixed.

That is what happens when timing belt/chains jump or break. Not very often you get warning. All is good and then suddenly it isn't. Hopefully you didn't damage anything. I broke the belt in my turbo Talon and since they were an interference engine it blasted most of the valves through the head. It was messy. The bad news is that the FA 20 is also an interference engine. The good news is you didn't break the belt but just skipped it. It may be as easy to fix as popping a new belt on and making sure things are in the right place.

There are of course other things that it could be but that video is very telling. This is the very first case of this happening to a FA20 that I have read (there could be some I missed though) and I have to wonder if the pulley had anything to do with it. NOTE: I am not trying to start a another pulley debate here but it seems more than coincidental to me.

I just know replacing that chain replacement is gonna cost a ton in labor and I don't have the know-how or time to do it. The stock pulleys are going back on whenever I can get this thing into a shop.

How many miles are on your car?

It sounds like the timing chain to me too

How are you with a multimeter? Meh, it gets deep quickly. Best to cut losses.

I haven't really used one but I understand you can test voltages on the wires. I'm taking it to a shop tomorrow but I'll keep the thread updated in case this happens to anyone else.

Quick update: Turns out the timing chain broke entirely on the passenger side. I've been told there is definitely bent valves and possible damage to the piston heads. I don't know how it happened but it did.

Pulley and driveshaft only? My condolences on your engine dude. RIP

It's all good, I'm taking it back to stock then it's gonna be covered under manufacturer warranty. Then I'm selling it.
