2017 toyota 86 head unit is pissing me off
ive been having ipod issues ever since i got it. it frequently disconnects or freezes my ipod when playing music theough the usb. im wondering if it has anything to do with it constantly saying "acquiring data pleas wait" just so it can show the picture with the song playing. is there anyway to disable it from showing the album art? thanks!!! i had the 2016 scion frs and the head unit in that one was much better and never had the freezing issues since it didnt display the album art

Life is too short to be pissed off at your head unit! Did you try connecting to your iPod via Bluetooth instead of the USB?

sorry for posting advice that's not particularly helpful but maybe it's time to retire the iPod... I honestly had no idea that people still used them.

Wow i thought the head unit was the same? My 2016 plays my ancient ipod video just fine. Glad i snatched a 16 while they lasted!
You could always... replace with aftermarket head unit? |

Got a question for you @Cosmo Kramer,
With an Ipod, does it load the MP3 covers from your device or it load up from the Gracenote database in the radio ? Really piss me off to have those "R&B" "Dance" general image when the radio don't find any match in the gracenote database. |
Sorry, double post don't know why !?!

I put my music on a 128GB microSD card and put that in a microSD to usb adapter. After it figures out all what is on there it seems to work fine. I just wish there was a way to play from playlists or just play all songs...
It's a shit head unit. Toyota can't find a decent head unit to put in any car. All I want is Aux in, bluetooth, usb, and option for satellite. I don't need anything else. |
I just got a 2017 86, and I can't believe how crappy the head unit is. I've had nothing but trouble trying to use an iPod Nano via bluetooth. Constantly disconnecting and I have to forget the iPod from both sides and restart the pairing process from scratch to use it. I was really hoping to find some trick or figure out I was missing something, but I think it's just that awful.
I also use a 32GB USB stick for music, which works OK, but it doesn't support playlists. I've been using an old 4th Gen iPhone as an iPod and that works a bit better. I think I'm going to invest in an iPod Touch that's dedicated to the car. (FWIW, I just don't like using my phone for music. I've always had an iPod just for the car.) |
My iPod Touch lives in my glovebox continuously powered by the secret 12V supply.
It plays fine via Bluetooth until I want to use my phone, then one or the other get kicked off. My old 15 Corolla had a much better head unit. |

No problems like that? |

I did, for the first time, hear my little EPA buzzy pump operating hours after I shut the car off. I'm sure it is pumping the gasoline fumes into a charcoal canister so they will not kill our environment. I could remove all the pollution shit from this car and it would still give off less CO2 than the amount of cows I eat per year. Everyone talks about the sacrifices we must make to save our planet, but no one says.....how about no replicating yourself? Why is that never discussed? Sorry, rant off. This car will need to be on a tender if it is not driven on a fairly regular basis. |
I have a 17 too and use bluetooth for music through an iPhone se. Every time I get in the car I have to spam the play/pause button until the audio decides it wants to go through the cars speakers instead of the phone.
