Traffic Light Racers

So, what's the etiquette?

Put some fancy wheels on a BRZ and it seems everyone wants to race you.

I was at a red light yesterday, talking to my passenger and unbeknownst to me a Renault Meganne Turbo pulled up beside me - well until the lights changed. Then in a screech of tyres and cloud of smoke it disappeared up the road.

Hmmmm I thought, 'guess he wanted to race me'.

So what's the etiquette? If the other car is clearly going to blow you away, do you race anyway or ignore him? Do you race other cars you know you can beat or is that lame? Do you just race MX5s (Miata's)?

Anyway my excuse is that I'm still running my engine in.

If you like your license you just smile and cruise..

Leave the racing for the track

Xanatos 02-25-2017 01:17 AM

For the safety of others please don't race on public streets.

Esseff 02-25-2017 04:09 AM

Oh yes. Please don't get me wrong. Safety first!

I'm sure all those ppl fitting turbochargers, superchargers, adjustable suspension, brembo brakes, etc, etc are just doing it only so they can safely overtake that truck when they are on the freeway. ;)

Once you have spent time on a track at the limit, pedal-mashing in a straight line between red lights will be about as exciting as watching grass grow.

IMO our car's strong suit is not straight-line acceleration. I think even a V6 Camry can beat us in a straight line...

Now roll down the window at the stop and tell them to take it to a track.. then we'll have some fun :burnrubber:

heres my rule: pushing limits on my car is for me to enjoy when im in control of the environment: on a favorite road, scooting around an empty onramp, when i know my tires will grip, when im not in a residential area, if i know i need to do so to avoid a more dangerous situation or etc.

when someone wants to streetrace, you are no longer in control of your environment - it may be in an unsafe area, may be dark out and difficult to see, you dont know the road, they might be so inexperienced that they crash in to you, whatever. so i skip it, i dont need to prove anything to that guy.

I've yet to have anyone approach me to race and I have bright green brembos! What am I doing wrong?!

Esseff 02-25-2017 11:20 PM

Oh, sorry. It seems this topic has been done to death in another thread.

Apparently we have*no chance of loosing our licences... cause we are so slow that there is no point racing anyone!
