Neon underbody lights for BRZ?

Hello guys!!! I always wanted to add neon lights underneath my car because it was "cool" when I was a kid haha. I found this " https://www.ledunderbody.com/million...-lighting-kit/ " for 139 if I get the inside ones as well. What are your thoughts on it? Would it look good on Brz? If anyone from Indiana/Chicago area know if this is street legal as well.

Appreciate all comments!!

I have LEDs in my wheels and front grill. I literally am running generic IP69 RGB strips, I got from Hitlights. However I have mine hardwired for white only.

I have mine wired up to a relay on the dome light to skirt the legality question. Mine only lightup when the vehicle is not in operation. As long as you don't drive with them on or act like and asshat your probably fine.

Please don't.

I think it's coming back and can look good if done well.

Example of JiveTurkey's old BZ

Nice, I haven't pulled the trigger on true underglow. Are you using high IP rated strips, or something else? I am only familiar with strips myself.

Not sure I would pull the trigger on underglow, but maybe. And besides its nice to talk details sometimes with other folks.

Edit.. I can read I swear.. you said this was jiveturkeys.. my bad :|

I know its considered a tacky modification, but the inner "FastnFurious" comes out when I see them and I shamefully do think they look cool.. Don't know if I'd ever have the "balls" to actually install some..lol

MarkR171 02-24-2017 03:11 PM

It's not old school, this was always stupid.

Kabong 02-24-2017 04:13 PM

I'll be completely honest: I had underglows long before F&F came out. They lasted about 6 months and then all hell broke loose. Tube would blow out (due to rocks being kicked up into the underpanel) and/or the housing/zipties holding them would snap and the tube would drop.
Now, it may have been the fault of bad install, but for what it's worth, it was fun while it lasted.

Subaru must have known I did this because the 2017 has interior blues that stay on at night (which I still have on my other car).

But, to each their own. If you are going to do, do it with class and get it done right.

If you really have your heart set on them make sure that you check your State laws closely. Many States (and in my case Provinces) have some pretty strict laws on what colour light can show on what areas of a vehicle. I know that locally if you show red blue or green lights in the front (and yes under is still the front) of the car you will get busted in a hurry. Who know though they may just not care around your area.

My wife has been begging me to do purple under her car for a couple of years now. I flat out refused and told her to do it herself.

It is very subjective to taste and no it doesn't look good no matter how "well done" it is.

I am not sure I would ever consider wiring them to be functional when the car is in motion myself.

My car is a big boy and doesn't need a night light.

fang_gt86 02-24-2017 05:53 PM

Spend that money on a drop-in filter instead if you haven't...

PECEOUT 02-24-2017 06:22 PM

See I saw that picture and yeah it did bring out that fast and furious out on me haha.... I have seen few people with having a huge one in the grill. Also it does come with a remote so I can control it and turn it off if I didn't need it. Just thought it might be something "cool" to have during car meets lmao....Al thought even without the glow, I know the car catches a lot of attention in my area because of that fact that there aren't many owners of this car.

In south FL, we were doing under body neon in 1990. We were the OG of the mod.

Those were just swamp gases trapped under the cars though so it doesn't count.

i wouldnt say it being an old school thing justifies it. even back in the 90s, it was laughed at. when i was a ****head teenager back then, we used to give thumbs down to cars that had it. now im way older and i just dont care how ugly or cheezy i think a car is because its all subjective and not worth my energy to criticize. besides, id rather share the road with a courteous driver in a "ricey" car than a douchebag driver with a "nice" car.

I found this thread after searching Google images for underglow 86. I have
A new 2017. My first addition will be "neons" . Because the exhaust I want is expensive and I must save for wants. While lights can be done fairly cheaply.
I created this account to say this to you. Get them. Enjoy them. End of story.
Everyone that asks me about mod lists has an opinion on lighting. Most have been supportive. I truly don't give a damn if they were all negative. Honestly .
If you are going to disqualify what others want because it does not suite your tastes .........ok. That's fine. But I disagree .
I just choose not to judge period. You got a lifted truck with rock lights that never goes off-road? Or a brush guard yet never been in the woods.
A racing seat or wheel Lol but never track your car. I don't care man do you and if it looks good and you enjoy it....all the better . And I'll thumbs up if it's cool and be quiet if I don't like it.
However you did ask these guys. So you got the answers .

But no way would I NOT do lights because it's old or passé. i say do it. Post
Me a photo when you do . I'll do the same .
Cheers and happy motoring .
