squeal of a clutch
 

whats going on everyone,
I've got a question, I recently purchased my FRS (had it a week and I'm already more in love than when I laid eyes on her) and I've come to hear a nice little squeal from what seems to be my clutch. on a cold start I hear it, right as I start my car, and it won't go away until my car is warmed up a little. its been intermittent on the start up and sometimes I hear it while I'm driving for the first two or three minutes and then it goes away. the weird thing is that when I push my clutch in about two to three inches it goes away? why would that be? is it a bad pilot bearing? a starved clutch fork? i haven't found a video like it yet but I also don't know how to navigate through this forum very well yet. any help is appreciated!

and your sure its the clutch and not a belt and the pushing in of the clutch a bit is just not a coincidence?

I mean it totally could be a belt but the sound is coming from the back of the engine from what I can gather. right where the bellhouse meets the engine. ill check my belts again though.

Yea belts are easy to check so may as well do that but if its coming from the clutch area I have no clue.

it doesn't sound exactly like that. its not "chirpy" like that. ill get a video. it only happens when I'm in neutral.

I just went to start it up and she didnt make the noise :bonk: (I guess thats good but doesn't help my situation) its a high pitch noise like that is quieter than that one. its intermittent as well, not every time I start it up which is throwing me off.

That was just one example of what can be heard with a bad TOB. It can make many different sounds. The TOB going is just the worst case scenario but in many of the posts with a weird noise it does indeed end up being the issue.

Well, now, LowAndSlowBecauseNoTurbo, I do believe ol @Tcoat has your situation diagnosed proper.

With your almost 50,000 miles, it wouldn't be unusual. A bad TOB can make different noises at different times (warm or cold; clutch in - loaded; clutch out - unloaded or just every now or then).

The only fix for a bad TOB is to replace it......which entails pulling the transmission. If you decide to have that done, you might consider budgeting for a new clutch disk and pressure plate (and maybe an upgraded clutch fork).

alright. it'll be in my budget for the upcoming unfortunate event. :cry: I have a warranty that I purchased with my car off the lot (used car lot) and they gave me a five year 75,000 mile warranty, will my clutch and throwout bearing fall under warranty or will it say in my agreement? if you know anything about warranties, sorry haha they said drivetrain but that would be engine, driveshaft, axles and whatnot to me at least.

Well now, I reckon that all depends on how your warranty reads and/or how it is viewed by the warranty people.

The throwout bearing is considered a wearable part typically it's not under warranty but what is under warranty is the fork that it's held onto is weird at the same issue and up having to change it all did it myself for a lot cheaper than a mechanic would do it
