Planning On Buying A BRZ Soon

Hello everyone!
I'm currently planning on getting a BRZ within the next few months. The plan is to buy stock one locally from Craigslist. Before doing so I have a few questions that I was hoping you guys could help answer.
  • What's the best year to get?
  • What are some common issues to look out for?
  • What would be an instant red flag when buying a BRZ?
  • Do you have any regrets about getting your BRZ?
  • Any other advice
Thanks everyone!

like most cars the kinks tend to get sorted as time goes on, so later model is preferable if ur budget allows.

good luck finding stock, non prior modded cars off CL. u may have better luck via dealer for unmolested car. i bought mine with 2k miles so likelihood of abuse was slim.

no regrets. love it.!

I cant vouch for any year except the new refreshed 2017.
Only thing i know is this face lift year brought a lot of performance enhancements to the car and I am deeply satisfied with that.

Buy the newest one your budget will allow and be patient while you search. I have no regrets with mine.

what are you going to use it for? Are you going to modify it? Why are you artificially limiting your search to your area and craigslist, of all awful places. At least check out Cars.com before you buy to see everything nationally.

The 2017 is the most attractive looking year model. Pics don't do it justice. The interior leather upgrade with alcantara is also really impressive as well as the center nob area design.

I'm definitely in love with my car

carpets and headliner are on the cheap tho..and the hard plastics could have been wrapped ..pleather would have been a step up even.

the plus is lending itself extremely well to the very low weight...and this is partly the reason.

Is your budget $14k or $28k? Let's start off with that question.

The only thing to be really worried about is the cam timing sensor issue on early cars. The TSB is 11-130-13R. The issue affected all cars until it was fixed April 2013. Any cars built AFTER April 2013 should not be affected by this.

Don't be afraid to get a car within that time range but just make sure that it has already been in for that TSB. Ask to see the service record showing that it has. The dealerships won't do anything about an affected car that doesn't have the related CEL and the 5 year drive train warranty is running out on 2013 cars this year and if it crops up after that, you'll be on the hook to get it fixed so I'm sure you'd rather make sure the problem has already been addressed in whatever car you get.

What's the easiest way on the BRZ to find out manufacturing date. I'm going to pick mine up next week

It is on the VIN sticker on the driver side door frame. It will only tell you month and year though.

I was hoping by having the VIN I could tell, I will find out when I get there to pick it up I guess.

Thanks
