Issues with new wheels.
Hi Everyone,
I recently got my car some new wheels (Enkei RS05RR - 18 X 8.5) and some new tires (Kumho Ecsta Le Sport - 245/40/18). After having the tires and wheels installed, I noticed my car was riding really bumpy. At first I thought I was being paranoid but it seems the bumpy ride persists even on smooth roads. It feels as if I am constantly running over bumps no matter what the condition of the road. The bumpiness seems to be coming from the rear right wheel (driver side) as I didn't feel the bumps when I rode in the passenger side. The bumpy feeling is not transmitted through the steering wheel, but can be felt from the seat. The bumps are also more apparent at low speeds, but can also be felt at higher speeds. Anyone got any idea what might be wrong? Thanks. |
Maybe the wheels and tires are too big for the car ........:D .....
I'd suggest you check the pressure in all of the tires. Maybe have them re-balanced. Rotating the tires may help in detecting the bad actor. You might have a tire that is defective (out of round). Come back. humfrz |
Hey, thanks for the reply!
I've checked tire pressure 35 psi all around so that shouldn't be an issue. I've already contacted the tire people, but it's Friday so I have to wait till Monday to get a response. anyway of checking if the tire is out of round? I'm hoping it's the tires, cause they're easier to replace. Thanks again. |

You could do a "quick & dirty" check by jacking up a corner and spinning the wheel against a straight edge. Oh, yes make sure all the lug nuts are tight .....! I hope you get it sorted out soon so you can enjoy your new wheels. humfrz |
You can also swap wheels to another corner to see if it changes anything.

Don't have my car yet so haven't even paid attention - does Subaru use Hub Centric or Lug Centric wheels.
If your new wheels don't match they may not be centered on the hub and would cause an in smooth ride |

I'd still highly recommend centering rings on these cars. I got mine (aluminum) from Counterspace Garage and they fit perfectly! No vibrations at all! |

Already got aluminium hub centric rings for these wheels, so we can rule that out.
I also did more testing and it seems the wobble/bumpiness is most apparent around 15 - 20kmh (9 - 12mph), but is still noticeable at higher speeds. I would like to refit the wheels myself but unfortunately I don't have a torque wrench. Still open to other suggestions. Cheers for the reply guys! |
