High Flow Cat or Resonator [SOUND]?
Hello,
I cannot seem to find a straight answer... Current Setup: Perrin Cold Air Intake Openflash Header Stock Overpipe Stock Front Pipe TRD Cat-Back Exhaust (Resonator in Midpipe) OFT Stage 2 Tune Looking to upgrade my Front Pipe for better flow. I would like to keep the same volume and similar tone to what I have now, while also maximizing flow. My two options: - HKS Dual Resonated Cat-less Front Pipe - Catted Front-Pipe Question: What would keep the volume/rasp down more? Catted or Resonated? |

The unknown part is whether or not changes to resonator sizes will negatively impact the ability of the exhaust system to suppress sound. I've tested about 10 different setups, just having a high flow cat alone does nothing for sound suppression. The stock front pipe is already decent and is not a source of any decent power gains. -alex |
Having previously changed only the front-pipe for one with a high-flow cat, meaning only changing the front-pipe, rest of the exhaust stayed the same as before, the car got significantly louder. I would say the increase in volume was as much as putting the header on, maybe even more than that.

Look into Nameless Performance's overpipe/downpipe combo. You can get it with a catt, and a nice ball resonator.
