TRD Catback and Header Setups

Just wondering if some of you twin owners out there with the TRD catback exhaust could give me some advice on good quality headers to enhance the sound. I've listened to a few soundclips on youtube of the TRD/Borla UEL header combo and I do like the sound. My concern is that I've heard it is pretty drony at highway cruising speeds. I realize that you can't expect to change headers and the exhaust to stay quiet/drone free, I'm just trying to avoid any excessive drone if I can. What are some of the TRD catback/header setups you have installed or heard? :thanks:

I don't own the TRD exhaust so don't take my word for it, but from my knowledge most headers will drone like crazy with the TRD exhaust.

The most tamed, but expensive option would be going the Apexi Route with the catted resonated front pipe. You can see it here,

mav1178 has also done a lot of test with this setup and it's proven to be a tamed setup even with one of the loudest exhausts on the market. That crazy Tomei one.

I have the TRD exhaust with a typical EL header (classic 4-1 header), and between 3k and 4k rpm it drones like a bitch. Below 3k it sounds like if it had a UEL header, above that it sounds beautiful. You can see iddle, low revs (during warm up lap) and some redline action during the race on this video. The exhaust is catless EL, high flow cat front-pipe, overpipe (all of that 2.5") and TRD catback.

That's some good info, thanks! Sounds like I may have to give up on the idea of keeping the TRD exhaust unfortunately....:iono:

I have the TRD USA catback with the Tomei UEL, Tomei over pipe, and HKS dual resonated front pipe.

I don't have any youtube clips but there's several clips on my Instagram: tcson

This setup is the right amount of noise, quiet when normal driving, semi loud with a great tone when I get on it. I don't think of it as droney but it does have its moments on the highway when cruising uphill.

This sounds MUCH BETTER than expected.

I've been running an OFT3 Catless Header, stock front pipe, TRD Catback on one of my shop cars now for over a year and haven't noticed any bad drone. I actually love the sound, and before the car became a trailer queen, I used to drive it 2 hours to events comfortably.

I have the trd exhaust with a JDL catted uel header and stock front pipe. I don't have any sound clips but it's not too loud or drone-y for my ears.
