How to unmarry OFT W/O the car it is married to

So someone has an OFT for sale and it is currently married to his car but he doesnt have the car anymore and cant access it to erase the OFT. Should I still buy it from him? Is there a different way to unmarry it and use it on my FRS?

Thanks in advance

You wont be able to flash tunes with it unless its umarried from original car.

Its possible but you ned a few special tools and second flash device and some tricks

Short answer is no its only good for logging if its married to another brz or frs if it married to bmw or mazda its totally useless to you
Just move on and buy an unmarried or new one

It means they either stole it or they're a moron. Either way, no, don't give them your money.

Problem is you need someone who knows how to sort it out. if you lived near me it might be worth it.

but cost to ship it to me and back ( unless you fly me their :D ) will make it a better option to just pay 350-400 for a working one.

They should know they can contact OpenFlash to get it unmarried, but OpenFlash typically only provides that service to confirmed buyers.

Smells like it's stolen, which is something we've seen reported in this forum quite a bit. I wouldn't touch it unless he has proof of purchase, and then he could send that to OpenFlash and ask to get it unmarried.

FYI for $160ish you could get a Tactrix. Not the most user friendly, but far more useful than a married OFT.

As much as I'd like to fly you out here I think I'd rather spend the money on some parts

Ill just wait to get a dyno tune later :) Thanks!!

I second this. It is very well known that the point of marrying the device to the car is so that you can't just flash multiple cars with one device. The device MUST be unmarried to move to another car -- If the owner sold the car with the tune on it then that shows that they are either:

1. Uneducated
2. Too lazy to flash back the stock tune, or didn't want to for some other shady reason
3. Both

No way I would do business with that -- It may sound harsh, but its the truth.
