I was taking a look under my hood the other day and i noticed that something seemed to be missing from that slot in the picture.

Im not sure if its suppose to be like that or if their should be a rubber or metal piece that covers that hole. If so, what is that part called? Because i tried searching for it but couldnt find anything.

Yes there's supposed to be a rubber plug on there, prevents clutch dust from forming around the opening and serves as a visual inspection whenever you need to look around inside the housing for whatever reason. It's not a critical thing to have but with time that area will look like brake dust has never been washed off.

That's why this was produced:

Come to think of it, the rubber piece probably flew out on my last track day (as mentioned possible by Velox) since I noticed it was missing after my last session.

The opening is for removing the torque converter bolts on an automatic/CVT. All Subaru engines have that hole.

Or melted. :/

I wasn't going to assume you're tracking it but yeah, maybe Eric's special cover is what you really want.

Would it cause any issues if it fell inside?

Nah, except for the gooey mess it made. Just a hunk of rubber.

Mine falls off after an autocross or track day. I might grab that replacement part though better safe than sorry.

Ill probably end up getting the Velox piece

tobin 02-07-2017 04:54 PM

Does it matter that the Velox cover isn't a perfect seal like the factory rubber piece? Will dust and dirt make their way into the clutch area over time?

It's wide open anyhow. I don't know which is the input versus output but there are ports at the top left and bottom left corners of the bell housing. It's designed to circulate fresh air to cool the clutch.
