Dyno Database

I'm trying to gauge interest in setting up a dyno database. I did this for BMW M3's and currently have over 500 dyno entries in the database.

The database keeps track of all of your mods, dyno results, dyno correction factors, etc., and will allow you to upload your dyno files so others can download and compare.

Here's what I did for BMW's:
www.bmwdynodatabase.com

I could do the same thing for FRS/BRZ/86. In fact, I wouldn't even need to change much (if any) programming. I would also be looking for one person to help me administer it. Most people don't input their own dyno entries, so it's really a labor of love searching the web for dyno results, nagging the owner to answer questions, and inputting into the database. The actual input takes no more than 5 minutes of your time.

Unlike the database listed above which is tied into a car forum, I would make this one completely stand-alone and unaffiliated. I would probably use an interface like I did here for the Performance Database:
http://www.perfdb.com/PerfDB.php

Give me some feedback, and if there's some interest (and if I can get somebody willing to help), then I'll set it all up.

I like this idea.

I too have been thinking we should set something like this up.

Definitely interested. This would be very helpful to the community

Here's some of the features that I should also point out. These features are already in the BMW dyno database.
  • All dyno files and images are hosted locally. This prevents somebody from changing photobucket/imageshack accounts and losing the images.
  • Allows embedded youtube videos, formatted html text, and photos. This allows an entry to be annotated with pictures, video, and text.
  • Dyno runfiles can be uploaded to my server. This allows others with the appropriate viewer software to download the files and make comparisons. This also keeps people honest.
  • Keeps track of your car modifications on your dyno runs. Again, allows for more accurate comparisons.
  • Results can be filtered by modifications. If you want to see all the dyno results for a certain modification, it's very easy.
  • Links to a car forum thread or blog entry.
  • Shows baseline/after deltas.
  • Shows results in SAE, STD, UNC (and others)
  • Shows power as HP, PS, and KW
  • Shows torque as TQ, NM, and KGM
Anybody who gets caught cheating the dyno:
  • For severe cases, their entries will be marked "invisible" and removed from public view.
  • For more benign cases (like the guys manipulating before/after results by posting inferior "before" dyno runs), their entries will be annotated but not removed -- so everybody knew they did this.
Here's some examples what you see when you click "view" on a database entry:

I'm always interested in things like this!

Dan86 07-13-2012 07:14 PM

I can volunteer to help get this set up.

I'm almost done setting this up. I had to completely rewrite the Dyno Database software to take it away from the other car forum and make it stand-alone.

Here's a sneek peak of what it looks like for BMW's. Fancy things like logo graphics will come later.

On NASIOC there is a loosely followed format in the Proven Power section of basic mods and conditions to be posted with dyno or drag strip posts.

I've tought of doing this many times, but the reality has been that out of 500 the bmw dynos in the database already, only about 10-20 of them were printed with weather conditions. So that leaves it to me to look it up online if i can figure out the date and time of the dyno. Of course if i have the dyno run files, then they have the conditions recorded in them.

But if I ever do put in this feature, I would also add a feature to covert all of the correction factors.

OK, I turned on the BRZ/FRS Dyno Database on an experimental basis. Since this is a total software redesign from my BMW dyno database, there's bound to be some bugs. Send me a PM if you find any bugs or can think of new features.

In the coming days/weeks, I'll be going through all of the threads and seeing how many dyno charts I can find and post.

I bookmarked your URL. This will be extremely useful in the near future for me, so I wanted to thank you ahead of time for putting this together. Hopefully this database will continue growing, as more and more dyno sheets are posted.

So, a big thank you for your hard work and efforts. It really is appreciated!
:thanks:

Any way of adding a Superflow tab? I know myself and at least two other people who were dyno'd on one.

Opposed 09-07-2012 06:31 PM

Can you add mine to the list?

kwood9000 09-07-2012 06:43 PM

I believe at least one of the VividRacing Dynos add their pulley to the configuration, which is not listed.

QFry 09-07-2012 07:38 PM

so ive got a stock and stock with CEL/SL dyno performed but what other info do i need to provide to put this into the database? http://www.ft86club.com/forums/dto_g...ehicle_id=1267

PHP/SQL programming and graphic design for several years now, so let me know if you need anything. Though, since you've probably got the backend pretty much set up, let me know if you need anything else set up as well like hosting.

Here's a plot to add to your db: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showp...&postcount=565

93 octane, 6MT (5th gear pull), stock save for the axleback.

Boosted2.0 10-14-2012 04:05 AM

You've got our dyno number wrong

This is our current highest stock pulls - 178:

completely stock, 93 octane, 6MT

and perhaps the dyno database should be stickied? or atleast a thread where people can post their numbers, so that it'll go into the database more easily?

pixel67 02-24-2013 07:47 AM

Two things. Sticky it so it doest get buried, and what do you think about adding a virtual dyno tab?

2forme 02-24-2013 09:32 AM

How do you add dynos? I'd like to add mine as I have a lot of different ones.

if you have a photobucket account, you can add it as one of your contacts in your phone, then when you take a pic with said phone, can upload instantly. that's how i do it

RedLeader 02-24-2013 12:33 PM

Are all these graphs of wheel hp/tq or flywheel? I've got a graph for each one from my last trip to the shop, but I just figured I'd ask before posting either one.

wrxgoose 02-24-2013 12:46 PM

i believe most people are going to be showing from the wheels, since it's easier to get, and i can't think of any shops that have dynos that'll read from the flywheel

When will folks be able to add new results? There are '86 clubs outside of this one which you may not be aware of who may be interested in posting results there.

If I know PencilGeek like I think I know him, I doubt he will want to add a virtual dyno tab. The Subaru guys are the only group I have been apart of that seems to think virtual dynos are worth anything more than the bytes they take up on a hard drive.
